Default Convertible Subwoofer Solution - Help

Ok,
So i have been searching for past 6 months since i bought my srt-6 convertible and i cannot find any good and viable solutions
I looked in to fitting the sub behind the seat, but that is not very good solution. Right now i have two 6.5" subs which are rubbish.

The other issue that i heard from Alpine, that they had on one of their show cars is that if you fit the sub in the trunk it could mess up the sensors for the roof,so it wouldnt open or close

Does anyone has any ideas what can i do?

I pulled the top safety cover out, jumpered the micro switch and installed a kicker 12" sub in a wedge shaped cabinet in the trunk. It is located were the top is stored in the open position. There is just enough clearance that they do not interfere with each other. The only drawback is you have to be very carefully with what is in the trunk during opening and closing it.

Please, can you provide photos of the sub job you mention, sound like a good idea!

I am considering running a separate amp to drive the stock subs. I found one just small enough to fit along side the factory amp. I just need to know which wires to clip on the output side of the amp for the subs so that I can avid having to run wire. I have already did the rca connector mod on the input side of the amp and am using the pre-amp outputs on my HU. Any thoughts?

I just looked at the diagrahm and it shows 4 wires going to each subwoofer. I guess I need to take one out to look at the connectors to see how it is actually wired. Thanks for the tip though. No easy way out I guess!

Take a look at this:

Sounds much better than the stock solution.

Finally...............I have a winner. I installed a Kicker Subwoofer in the trunk with a 1000w mono block amp and the sound is amazingt! Plus........it fits under the top with no problem. The dimensions are 16 inches long, 5 inches wide, 3 1/2 inches tall! Sorry Frank.............I just couldn't wait any longer! Total cost for this upgrade was $250. I am loving the sound!

So far all is good!. Read in an earlier post that some sensor(s) may be affected but not sure what they were talking about. I didn't see any "sensors" located in the area where the top sits so hopefully I am good to go!

I pulled it out of storage yesterday. My set-up is about the same. My wedge is facing forward. I have a 10" sub. If you have some vibration you can always dynomat the trunk. Anyways the set-up looks good.

Frank

Can you detail what you did as far as sensors are concerned! I gave the sub a good workout this evening with the top up. I went to put it down and it would not complete the cycle. After waiting for a few minutes the system seemed to work correctly and I was able to lower the top. Am I mising a step as far as keeping the top operational with the added vibrations from the subwoofer? Any help will be appreciated!

James

Doing a bit more troubleshooting and discovered that I may have a low battery. After starting the car and letting it run; everything seems to be working as advertised! Maybe I did too much testing without having the car running! Should I look at getting a more powerful battery? I sure do have lots of questions!!
