Default Alarm acting odd

Hi guys,

I've read the threads regarding alarm issues and I have a little bit of a different situation. A few weeks ago my alarm went off while driving and then again at home, and would not shut off trying to use the remote. I thought it may have been an issue with the hardware in the trunk getting wet as it was immediately after I had my Startech spoiler installed and it was raining- I thought that maybe some water was pooling because of the spoiler and leaking into the trunk. I had to pull the fuse that night and brought it to the dealership I bought the car from shortly after.

I got the car back with the issue "fixed" and I noticed that I now have the chimes when locking and unlocking the car. As such, I assume that they must have replaced the siren. The first time it rained afterwards I waited to see if I had the same issues, but nothing happened even after a few days of rain. However, in the last week, the alarm has started to go off again randomly. This time around, though, I can shut the alarm off using the remote without any issues which is different than last time around...

So my question, after reading all of the threads, is what might be the cause. The siren seems to be the new version, so that would mean it could be the skreem receiver thing, the remote (though the alarm has gone off when the remote is clear across the house and what I would assume would be out of range), or the actuator/hardware in the trunk...

Anyone have any ideas of what I should do next? I really don't want to go back to the dealer since they're 1.5 hours from my house and I would have a hard time getting to/from work without the car...

Not really, other than You did not mention Your battery status in Your post. ( this should be a requirment in order to hit subit in any electrical thread.)

When My battery went, My Alarm went Schitzo. It's how I knew My battery was gone.

Haha good point, sorry about that! Battery is allegedly new per the dealership. I have some faith in this because he mentioned specifically something about it being a specialty battery or being more expensive than other cars. But I've been wrong before.

The specialty battery line is BS, get the battery checked out properly.

No faith? But you're right, doesn't hurt to swing by an autozone and check...

The thing with this alarm issue that makes me scratch my head is that before the key fob couldn't turn it off but now it can... what's the possibility of the original problem being fixed with the new siren but a new problem cropping up? hmmmm

I had the very same issue when I first got my car from the dealership. New battery fixed the issue, haven't heard it go off since.

What do I check next?

Well battery checked out and I replaced the batteries in my key just to be safe.... aaannndd the alarm is still going off at random.. Again, the first time around it went off while driving and could not be shut off with the key.. The recent occurrences can be turned off with the key and don't seem to happen when the alarm is not engaged, and when the alarm is going off it will shut off on its own in 30-60 seconds..

Anyone have any other ideas?
