I have a 04 crossfire coupe. The rear subs are shot and busted and do not work at all. I been trying to research new 4 ohm subs for the rear with no luck so I know I will be losing some oomph by losing the subs and replacing with speakers. However these speakers have gotten great reviews. The cd unit is still stock but will replace with aftermarket unit at the same time. What do you all think? Will they work? Will they still sound good? Any suggestions or comments will greatly be appreciated by me and anyone else wondering about these speakers. Thanks

You mean like a link, or name or some other way to narrow it down from the 1000's of different speaker options on the market today?

I think if you do some searching on here, you'll find that some members have actually found some good replacement subs in both size (very little if any modification needed) and impedance.

When I chatted with the folks from crutchfield, they told me that the Infinity amp was designed for 2 ohm speakers. Unless you bypass this amp, you will lose power by using something other than a 2 ohm speaker. I was going to just refresh my speakers and use the stock set up to power it but now I think it will make more sense to replace the amp, head unit and all speakers. I will prob end up with better sound for less money and less hassle than trying to follow suit with the 2 ohm set up. Infinity is the only company that makes 2 ohm speakers (according to crutchfield) and the replacements look like what is in my car already. Im going to have to scrap the whole system and start a new!

 

These work and fit with a bit of Dremel work.

Dual VC, 4 ohm.

 

JBLs are 2 ohm. I have the P660c in my doors and WOW, what a difference. I did have to do some hacking on the metal speaker opening (bigger cage and magnet) to make them fit but it was well worth it. If money was no object, Focal K2 are around $900 a pair. CDT, Cadence, Kicker, Image Dynamics, RE Audio all make 2 ohm sets .

 

. Yea I did read into that post and the list he provides. Most of those speakers will not work that well tho because they are not dual coil. I almost bought those kicker ones until I read into them more.

 

. Hey Max, do those sound good? They are very inexpensive and also only 100 watts. If they sound good and hit good I'm down for them.

 

I used these to replace my pair of perfectly functioning OEM DVC subs.
They DID require some Dremel work to fit the baskets. I have photos somewhere that I can provide to show you what has to be cut away. It is NOT obvious when you start.

For a given volume input, they are quite a bit louder than the OEM subs.
The bass is nice and tight, unlike the OEM subs.

What has to be cut away is clearance for the permanent magnets. The OEM subs' magnets are ~ 1/2 the size and 1/3 the weight of these. It shows up in the efficiency.

In my roadster, I can actually annoy other drivers at stoplights. Couldn't do that before! Not real bad, but it is much louder than before.
