AudioControl Introduces the LC6
Six Channel Line Output Converter

AudioControl, the award winning designer and manufacturer of performance autosound signal processors, announces the release of their new LC6 six channel line output convertor. This high performance line output converter accepts the speaker level output(s) from factory installed source units or amplifiers (up to six channels) and converts them to a high quality pre-amp signal. This pre-amp signal can then drive an after-market amplifier and speaker system.

“An increasing number of vehicles are coming equipped from the factory with source units that have lots of desirable performance and convenience features,” explained Chris Kane, sales manager of AudioControl. “Steering wheel volume controls, on-board navigation, and multi-disc changers are standard on a number of vehicles, giving consumers less motivation to change their factory source units. However, customers still complain that factory installed systems lack power and have poor speakers. Our new LC6, six channel line output converter, gives dealers the necessary tool to dramatically improve the audio performance while utilizing a factory installed source unit.”

The high impedance input of an LC6 allows it to accept two, four, or six input channels at a signal level of 400 watts. In addition, the Auto Mode switching circuit allows the LC6 to accept four speaker level inputs and output six pre-amp channels. This makes the LC6 ideal for many newer vehicles (like BMW, Mercedes, etc.) that have proven to be challenging for today’s mobile electronic specialist.

“Many newer vehicles are using a proprietary bus or digital transmission protocol to transmit signals from the factory installed source unit to an amplifier,” explains Tom Walker of AudioControl. “This type of cabling makes it rather challenging if not impossible to intercept the signal between the source unit and amplifier, which limits a customers upgrade potential. The high input impedance of the LC6 combined with its ability to accept up to 400 watts of signal allow it to go in-line after the factory amplifiers and output a high quality pre-amp signal. This makes it an ideal interface as installers don’t have to deal with the ever-changing protocols of factory systems. In addition, it sounds great!”

Other installation friendly features include voltage sensing turn-on and a 12-volt output. Most factory installed source units do not have a 12-volt trigger to turn-on external processors and amplifiers. The LC6 actually monitors the signal at it’s speaker level inputs and when it senses an audio signal, it automatically powers up the LC6. Once powered up, the LC6 provides a 12-volt output that can be used to turn on external amplifiers and processors.

The LC6 is also equipped with an input for an optional subwoofer level control that allows the user to control the signal output. The LC6 can be installed behind the dashboard or in some other inconspicuous location, while the optional dash control can be placed where the customer can easily access it.

The LC6 from AudioControl has a U.S. retail selling price of $149 and will ship July 2004. The optional subwoofer level control is available at a retail selling price of $39.99.

AudioControl has been designing and manufacturing the highest quality award-winning home and car audio components since 1977. The company’s headquarters, including research and development, manufacturing, and production facilities, are located in the state of Washington in the heart of the rainforest of the Pacific Northwest.

be very careful in making the suggestion. New and somewhat older systems are utilizing advanced dsp and filtering on individual channels, thus you run the risk of limited bandwidth output. In the case of the crossfire four of the six channels are dedicated to the sub section while the doors are using the other two. In the case of other systems such as in the new e-class, Land rover, and BMW 5, 6, & 7 series each of the channels represents on of the 8 channels of the Logic 7 surround process, thus tapping them could lead to missing information during intergration.
