want to install rear speakers in base crossfire
Hi all new Crossfire owner here. I have an 06 base model and I want to install rear speakers. What I need to know is where do I find the brackets to mount them or are there any write ups out there on how to make some. Thanks for any info.
I'm in the same boat. I have a pair of Cambridge Soundworks MC55 that I want to mount behind the seats on the bulkhead. Just trying to figure out the bracket needed. I still have the OEM radio/amp installed and would probably have to go to an aftermarket radio in order to run the rear speakers from the rca out. Anyone know if another set (rears) can be tapped in to the OEM amp? It looks like you can't since you wouldn't get any type of fade control.
Yeah I'm probably going to go w mounting something behind the roll bar or to the roll bars behind the seats but I don't want it to look jank lol that's why I was hoping someone could tell me where to find the mounts or how to make them.
Oooo..that's a whole different problem. I'm in a coupe so I've got interior sidewall options with small adjustable universal speaker mounts.
Could be mounted straight down on the bulkhead also.

What I did in my coupe was to remove the small access panels used to get to the tail light bulbs. I then I used them as a template to make a replacement panel out of fiberglass FRP - we have scraps at work. I made a cutout for the speakers in these panels and covered them with sticky backed black felt. I mounted the speakers in these panels and mounted them in the openings in the corners. The FRP is fairly stiff, but will bend enough to take on enough of a curve so they look factory. I just tuck the upper edge of the panel into the same place the factory panels fit and run two screws through the bottom.
I have a Blaupunkt MP66 Memphis head unit which is wired to the factory amp with an adapter plug. I'm using the rear RCA outputs to feed a small amp in the back to run the rear speakers. It makes a HUGE difference in the sound. Really fills in the soundstage. I started with a set of 3-1/2" Pioneers and recently replaced them with 5" MB Quart 2 ways. Sounds awesome - I'm sitting right in the middle of the music. If I need to replace a tail light bulb I just remove the two screws on the bottom, slide the speaker panels out and lay them in the back. Easy and fast.

Hey Tom, I also have the MP66 wired the same. Is the small amp really needed or couldn't you just run the speakers directly off the RCA outs? Should be enough amp power from the MP66 for this small a speaker. Also, are you getting the use of the fader control with your setup?
Its been several years since I installed the rear speakers so I don't remember exactly why I did it the way I did. I know the MP66's internal amp drives the factory amp because if I turn off the internal amp I lose the front speakers. I "think" I was worried about tapping into the rear speaker outputs of the head unit to drive the rear speakers because I wasn't sure how that channel is handled by the factory amp so I used the rear RCA outs from the head unit as a easy way out. This does give me full fader and balance control for front and rear. In retrospect, I bet the factory amp doesn't use the rear speaker outputs from the MP66 speaker outputs since it wasn't designed for a rear channel so there's a good chance they can be used instead of a separate amp.
Even using a pair of 3-1/2" 2-way speakers in the back made a world of difference. Fills the whole cabin with sound.
I have a question for you. Did you paint the trim ring that surrounds the faceplate silver? I didn't but I'm tempted to do it because it would really blend the head unit into the factory panel.

Hey Tom, I was gonna paint it. That was one of the reasons I went with the MP66 cause I saw a picture of one with the painted trim and it looked excellent. But I never got around to it; just left it black. It kinda matches up with the black surrounding the a/c *****. I still may try it. There was once a thread where a member stated the p/n for the correct paint that matched the panel the best but I'm not finding it at the moment.
