Shallow mount subs???
Has anyone put a set of shallow mount subs, larger than stock 6.5? I have been looking around, and an 8' usually has a lesser mounting depth. Has anyone modified the factory location to accomodate a larger sub? I can still keep everything sort of stock looking but provide much bigger bass without using any cargo space.

Here is a pic posted from another member that shows the area you will be working with. Don't forget the fuel tank is back there before you take a Sawzall back there.
Or depending on if you need the seat all the way back or if seat is moved up alittle you could get a pair of shallow powered enclosures to put behind seat they are only a couple inches deep.

Here is a premade box I found online before.
Alot just upgrade the 6.5's behind seat. Alittle modification with and Dremel and better mid bass can fit and sound alot better.
I have 4 audiobahn amd60h drivers wife got me for Christmas I will be making a enclosure for back.
If I ever get time, and honey do list is done. Hahahaha

And I spend alot of hours in my XFire every week alone.
And wearing headphones while driving down the road is illegal.
I am a grown man with little kids. No noise complaints will come from here, but I do want something with a bit more punch. Pioneer makes an 8' sub with a mounting depth of 2 5/8. The rear wall would have to be cut. I was just wondering if anyone has thought of this and done it, or will I be the first? ( I would imagine someone somewhere has done this ).
I've poked around with that idea while installing 6.5's. I THINK there's enough room to the outside to do a bit of whittling.
Take it apart and measure it. Simple!

It has been done BUT, not many want to mess around with that area since the fuel tank is so close.
.
Usually a bad sub is a result of the foam surround breaking up. Many have had great success glueing on new foam or rubber surround moulding for a fix that keeps everything stock and thumping.
Or the Earthquake SWS 6.5's (If they are still available)... Oh and of course a Dremel to modify the baskets.
But if you go that route you will need a new amplifier as well.
