Not satififed with stock antenna. Seems to have limited range of reception. Is there a fix or alternate suggestion?

Does anyone know if the standard antenna has a powered antenna booster built in? When I use the standard radio reception is fine, but when I put in my Pioneer head unit I get poor to non-existent reception.
