Default Stereo Install

Well today I decided to go ahead & replace the car stereo in my 2007 Coupe & fix the HVAC Control Module while I had the upper console apart. Disassembly of everything went easy enough although the only stumbling block I encountered was the removal of the HVAC Control Module itself. Illustration in the 2007 Shop Manual as to where to push in the side latches does not clearly indicate where the side latches are. The arrow points to 2 of the latches that hold the HVAC front panel to the rear case. Anyway, problem solved, HVAC Control Module separated, repairs per CL770 completed and HVAC Control Module re-assembled. Decided to stop there since everything was going pretty well up to that point. Tomorrow I'll start re-assembling everything & get my new car stereo installed. Pictures below of effort today.

Made some progress today on re-assembling the vertical console and connecting the new stereo's wiring harness to the Metra 70-1786 Harness Adapter for the Crossfire. Had to stop there as I'm waiting on delivery of the antenna adapter needed to go from the OEM antenna cable to the new after-market receiver.

1) Used a couple of 1/2" split cable wraps approx 1.5 inches long, to help center up the HVAC input shafts for air flow management. Took a few tries, but probably saved me some time. And the cable wraps can be left in place as they provide no interference with operation.

2) Placed a piece of electrical tape across the infamous cup holder to keep it from popping up due to my climbing all over lower console during re-assembly. My cup holder is still fully functional!!

3) Upper console faceplate re-installed along with switch module. (Note: I never disconnected & removed the switch plate from the vertical console cover. There was enough cable length to let it just lay against the lower console in the Driver's Well. Saved me some work. Previous pictures show this.)

4) New stereo bracket installed.

5) Pre-wiring of receiver harness to Metra 70-1786 Harness Adapter

6) Wiring Connectors from Crutchfield. These are the simplest connectors I've ever used!

Should be able to finish up tomorrow.

I didn't even consider that issue during this repair. Senior moment - I gets these now & again anymore. Oh well, goes on my To Do List for the Crossfire.

Yesterday when I was securing the Crossfire while waiting on the antenna adapter to arrive for today's stereo receiver install. I temporarily connected the negative terminal on the battery and locked the car with the remote. Then w/o hesitating, I disconnected the negative battery cable so I would be ready to go this morning. Needless to say now I know the security alarm on the Crossfire is still operational. All my neighbors also know that fact!!
