Default I-Pod hook up

I have to guess this has been brought up before. I'm new here, can anyone aim me on this? I have the transmitter gizmo but that's terrible. I saw that some stereo's are now coming with RCA jacks in the back. Is our radio I-Pod friendly?
Thanks - Pat

You need the Alpine head unit with the ipod interface. I have had mine now for about 6 months and its awesome. The ipod sits in the glove box where its docked and charged, the head unit then interfaces with the ipod giving you full function over most of the menu controls. As its hard wired the sound quality is as good as CD (for a car anyway).
Looks cool too!

I've seen the Alpine unit and yes its very cool. The one I saw had the scroll bar on it. What I'm wondering is does our stock Infinity system have RCA outputs on it? There is a way to wire it through RCA jacks. I don't want to start tearing stuff apart if that is not an option. The Alpine is a nice unit. One of my son's friends works at Best Buy and can get the Alpine for me for 249 installed but I'm really happy with the Infinity unit so I'm gonna try and find a way to use that first.

The item in our crossfire is a becker unit which has inputs for an autochanger, when we tested them they were dead?
Looks like they are there but not hooked up.

NO the stock system does not have an input. I changed to a JVC for that input. Pioneer also has an input feature too.

stock no your out of luck.
if you want an ipod controller from the head unit, alpine or clarion.
if you want to just use the controls on the ipod to play your songs, almost all aftermarket brands have units with inputs just search the specs on crutchfield or other on line source.
good luck.
oh I have a clarion and a controller and have been happy with it.

I know none of us like using an RF modulator but if you don't want to replace the factory head unit, you really should try one of the ones made by Transpod.

I have an ipod shuffle and was completely flabbergasted by the sound quality. If you like the factory system it will probably be good enough. It won't come close to comparing with the Alpine or JVC solutions but the shuffle unit was only $59.

look for a new product hitting the market in a week or so called Drive+Play from Harman Kardon. It has an option for a hard wired FM modulator, direct input/output, and wireless fm.
