Default Interior courtesy small red light

On my 2004 Coupe there is a red light (not all have one) on the interior

courtesy lights fitting. When the key is removed, this small red light is illuminated but off when the key is in and in the on position. Can anyone tell me what the light means or if it's normal to be illuminated when key is removed.
Thanks

I've never seen this on a North American spec vehicle. Either it is an aftermarket item or UK/Europe spec requirement.

I think you are right. I just cannot find any info online about what the red light indicates, if it should be on when the keys are out or not.

If it's not shown in your Owner's Manual, if you have one, I suggest removing the lamp and tracing the wiring. It may be an aftermarket security indicator.

I do not think it is aftermarket unit, it has a Mercedes part number. A few units for sale on eBay UK specifically stating for Chrysler Crossfire. I will keep searching around.

Hopefully a UK member can help to provide an answer. Good luck!
