Default Crankshaft Positioning Sensor...

Well Sunday after seeing a flick I came home and everything was great, parked the car and went inside for a quick second then back out to go to the store. I get in and turn the Key and all I get is cranking, over and over again but it won't turn over.
So I disconnect the the battery and leave it to reset and walk to the store. I come back 2 hrs later and car turns over no problem. Monday comes and I go to work and no problems, and everything is fine.
Work finishes and all seems well, then while waiting at the lights she cuts out and dies. Again car won't start and just cranks. Wait 5 minutes and again fires right up, this time with the check enine light on.

So I get home and my friend hooks up his computer and sure enough it pulls the P0335 "crankshaft position sensor fail" code and I'm at least releived it won't be hard to do seeing the great write up on the site.

So Today I call around to get prices as I need one now and have no options to order one and wait:

Canadian Tire: $190
NAAPA: $195
Mercedes Benz: $185
Parts Source: $126.50
and finally..........

Chrysler: $320!!!

I called Chrysler last and when he told me his price I laughed at him, telling him he's over $140 off from Mercedes and his reply "Oh well".

Needless to say picked up the part and had it swapped in less then 20 minutes!!

I was surprised on how quick it failed, as other members have mentioned it being sporatic with days/weeks in between!

Hum, Parts Source can sell it at that price and make money. Chrysler dealer sells one and laughs all the way to the bank. Truly distgusting.

Autohaus in Arizona: $39.11 but you have to pay UPS charges of about $12. STILL a steal.

I note that if you order 2 or more the shipping is 'free', at least to a U.S. Zip Code.

I am going to Arizona in November so if any Canadian wants me to bring a couple back, let me know..................send me a PM. That is something I definitely should order for myself.

I was looking their site from the link provided on a previous thread, but the site indicated no international shipping.

I just may take you up on the offer to get a spare. The cost savings alone would be worth keeping one around in case of another failure down the road.

I'm heading down to Phoenix on 2nd Nov. and returning early December. I can order these when I get there and have them shipped to the house and bring them back with me;
they are small enough to put in a suitcase.

I probably wouldn't worry about it BUT I did have experience with a PT Cruiser where the Crankshaft Sensor went, the car would not start at all and we had to get it towed to the garage and a few hundred dollars later, I found out what the problem was. I never heard of these until that time. It is like the 'olden days' when you carried a set of distributor points around with you just in case, however this can catch you off-guard without any warning.

I would prefer spending $40. dollars now and possibly never needing it, rather than get caught with the problem and spending $300. to that perverbial Chrysler dealership or other service provider............the bigger question is, where do you draw the line on inventory of spare parts and potential problems that you might have???

You are correct, how many spares do you want to keep on hand. Bluecoupe got me a CPS and its in the basement, not the best spot but at least I have it. I think the camshaft sensor may be a good thing to have as well.
My '93 Concorde died in the garage one time and I checked it over with an ohm meter and found out the problem, it was the CPS. I could not get at it myself and had it towed to the dealers. I told them what it was and that they should not go looking for the trouble and waste my money, they thought I was a crackpot customer, maybe I am but I was correct in my diagnosis. They were quite surprised that I had figured out the problem on my own. I had the Repair manual so it was a process of elimination that's all, it took about an hour of reading and probing.

I guess I should stock one of these just in case. What is the best source as I will be going to the US (New York and Ohio) in a couple weeks. Could pick some up while I'm there.

Bosch Crankshaft Position Sensor

Probably 'best source' if you have a U.S. address to ship it to!

Ship it to The UPS Store close by BUT make sure you call the store first
to ensure it is ok with them (pre-arrange shipment receipt).
