Default Philosophy

While at a car show this weekend, I was talking to a friend that I met at a car show last year and realized what I find important in these shows. It isn't winning trophies, although I have acquired my share, it's simply the enjoyment of meeting and conversing with new "car people", partaking in the consumption of good food and most importantly, contributing to a good charity. While I attend a show almost every weekend, next year my calendar will be filled by the shows with the best charities that I can find, followed by where the best food, etc may be found. This past weekend there was excellent BBQ ribs, chicken and pulled pork and a nice charity; mission accomplished. And to top it off my friend Tony took a 1st and I got a second in my class. What a nice weekend!

Could not agree more, I entered my first show back in 1980 (hard to believe that was 33 years ago). At one point in the mid 90's I was doing 12 or 15 shows a season but, the past 4 or 5 years it's been more like 1 or 2. The combination of the wife working a lot of weekends and the purchase of the Crossfire I am up to 8 so far this year. Having been out of the loop for the pass 4 or 5 years I am amazed by the shear number and quality of cars. I have maybe 15 of my favorite awards on display from over the years but most are stuffed in a closet in the basement collecting dust. I still go because I never get tired of looking at awesome vehicles and talking to people who have questions about mine.

I completely agree. I have only taken one award home in the many car shows that I have attended. The main thing is to meet new folks and see all kinds of different cars. Thanks to one local car show, I hooked up with my town car club (with a wide variety of cars) and have met some great folks.

I have been lucky enough to have "trophied" six times but I think it's mostly the wheels that they like but I would still enjoy the shows just as much if I hadn't won a thing.
