I am glad that obsolete threads are being closed, this will save people looking for spare parts from cars long gone down Route 66 to the wreckers yard.
I call it Route 66’d.

This is more of a problem with "parts for sale". Many ask about parts from cars that were parted out years ago. They don't bother to see when the OP posted originally.

I would suggest the problem is with inconsiderate OPs who fail to state when and how problems were solved so others could benefit (forever) and people who sell their cars or parts and then just vanish without noting same.
Maybe its generational.

Actually some sellers post the car was sold and people still ask for parts hoping someone will have it and then after one or two new posts people do not bother to go back and see if the car is still out there. I have let people know about 3-5 year old strings where the OP posted the car was sold. If someone started parting out a car 3 years ago I would not expect them to still have it. I usually click down in the bottom RH corner to first post and see how old it is then click on the last post to reply? But watcha gonna do?

I see a lot of ppl asking to have this or that post locked, (or maybe even deleted), so the huge amount of active posts are paid more attention to. To even go one further, a post by an OP that isn't active after a set period of time, to be automatically locked, so the many add-on posts with a 'like this problem' type (many years later) posts are not kept active long after a post is replied to (years later ppl post to a very old post). Maybe it isn't available, the possible options I have listed, maybe it takes a lot or a little effort to make those seemingly smart options being available. How about this suggestion (even if this 'reply' needs to be moved to the site suggestions forum)?

.
Many people do not say when their what ever is sold, so how can you expect them to bother to lock the thread. Making such an option available is hardly worth the effort in MHO.

Sorry but only admins can close threads, delete threads and posts
There are only 3 admins and we don't police this forum to follow every single thread and close it etc
The forum has been around 16 years
Nothing here will likely change
