Default Cargo carpet cover

I purchased my car used with low mileage. I noticed that the rear cargo area carpet, which is about 3 ft X 2 ft and covers the tire inflating and jack pieces, was pretty worn out with a couple of small tears. I thought it would look better if I replaced it. I went to Chrysler and asked for availability and price. I described the part and the tech started looking. He came up with a price of $340.00. After I said "WOW" he said "It's a Mercedes". Never the less I left there and went to another dealership, went through the drill and he came up with a price of $270.00. I'm even wondering if they looked up the correct part. My wife commented that we could buy a whole rug for the small bedroom. Are these realistic prices for a small piece of rug? Just curious to see what the forum members think. Most have been around a lot longer than me. Is that price ridiculous or realistic. Any input welcomed. Thanks, Bob

That can't be the correct price. Your wife is right. Take the worn out part to a carpet store or even an upholstery shop and have one made. I would pay no more than $120.00 at most and expect a reasonable amount to be $80.00.
I'll bet the part they were pricing was the retractable cargo cover.

I've had good experiences with these people ordering online. They have most everything in the collision catalog. I didn't check the price, because I couldn't get the illustration to show for some reason. I was unsure what the part would be called.

Hope it helps.

I've been doing some research. I believe it's called a cargo area mat. That is basically what it is. It's like a big floor mat. I don't think the guys at Chrysler knew what I meant. I think they gave me the price of the sliding security panel. I tried that site you were on and could not bring up the pictures either. I can't believe how hard it is to find such a simple part. I'm glad this isn't something I really need. Thanks for the help. I'll keep playing to see if I can find it. Bob

i have a full size cargo mat... exact custom fit for the crossfire w/ raised edges.

it is the "cargo logic" name brand with a water proof backing. this mat also includes the (2) cargo loks with velcro fasteners for holding things in place. i purchased it through "autoanything.com". the cost $90. shipped.

You could get an aftermarket one off ebay and aftermarket mats for less than that. Might be worth looking into.
I am sure they are looking up the wrong part.

Option 2 go to home depot or lowes, ect... Get a piece of carpet and just cut it to fit.
A stereo shop may have some similar stuff to for enclosures.
Good luck.

This is the one that I bought. It is a Lloyds cargo mat.

http://www.autoanything.com/products...aspx?p_id=1478

This site has it for $149, but I paid $99 for it about 2 years ago at a website that I can no longer remember.

It is an excellent product. Perfect fit and very thick and soft pile. Also, the base of the mat is rubber, so if something spills it wont go through.

Of course, you could always just install one of the roller-type cargo space covers and just not look at what's beneath it!
