just bought a black 6 speed :) woot
hi everyone, i just purchased a black 6 speed hard top ... this thing is now dubbed "The Batmobile" lol ... it is quite the stretch to drive this for me as it is the slowest yet highest quality car i have ever owned ... at age 23 now, i started out with a '98 dodge neon RT when i was 17 that i built a fully custom turbo system for and sold for a very very nice amount ... after which i purchased a black SRT-4, which my brother drives now ... and now i have the crossfire, and i honestly have to say i have found what i have been looking for ... not so fast that it will get you in trouble but fast enough to make merging fun and exotic looks and seating (its like a sitting in a jet fighter ! hah !) to boot...
can't wait to see what i can do with this car... first order of business, stock fog lights with 5k HIDs and 5K HIDs in the low beams as well... i may also fab up a custom exhaust system since the only thing i see available for it is a borla which was hit with the ugly tree several times as it made its way to production... the engine sounds great at high RPM and i can just imagine what it sounds like when unrestricted...
i also was looking at the intake design and am tempted to repeat a project i did on my ‘98 RT by designing a custom carbon fiber air box holding a apexi filter (sounded great feeding the super60 turbo)...
jeez, so much to do this summer ! can't wait to see what the rest of you come up with !

Congrats on the ride, its nice to have an enthusiast like you in here. I see you getting some parts from the SRT-6 and "modding" accordingly.

Welcome to the club...but don't be thinking that you are really going to change this car very much...a good thing for most of us...

Anyway, good luck with it as it is a sweet ride.

Crossfire from Neon SRT-4 is a step up in my opinion.
BORLA is in my future. What don't you like about it? Maybe cause I'm old and have sensitive ears.
Congrats on your Crossfire and keep us posted.

my gripe with the Borla is that they used horrible standard rounded exhaust tips that do not match the great bumper we have and the stock muffler tip design... i like the construction and quality of borla, but have to chop off the nasty exhaust tips that pillage the great stock look and put the stock tips back on it.
to boot... they should have at least painted the back side of the canister flat black so it does not stick out like a sore thumb since they put nasty tips on it...
however, i if i am going to be in the market for a exhaust system i will be buying the Borla... and breaking out my welder to get the great looking stock tips back on it...
all my previous projects i have followed one cardinal rule, if you are going to make changes, make sure it matches the look and character of the car... no matter how high quality something is, if it looks out of place, it won't make a good first impression...
Typhoon55... the SRT-4 is great and is still in the family, my older brother is driving it. i still work on it plenty.. today i put 16 inch BBS RX wheels on it (from ACR SRT-4) with 225 width tires (stock is 205), installed a powder coated valve cover, silicone intake pipe to replace broken stock pipe, 5k HIDs (for crisp white color and maximum light output)... already had traded the trunk lid for one without a exaggerated wing, led tail lamps in black (car is black too), and plenty of wax...
pelked1... not sure what you mean by what you said, my modifications to date on my previous cars have been done with the best of taste on cars that usually have none... so having a car that has this awesome styling stock, i can't go wrong with keeping the look stock increasing and the performance (hence why i want the stock exhaust tips on the borla... if not, stock tips on my own creation using stainless magnaflow muffler)...
THANKS FOR THE WARM WELCOME EVERYONE ! reminds me of my youngin days when i first joined neons.org and began learning the ways of the car nut. :P hope to learn alot from you over the next few months and then begin my planning...
PS... performance modifications are going in the SRT-4 as soon as it warms up a bit more so i can weld in a extra o2 bung... stage 2 waste gate + psi fi power paq + wideband o2... here come low 13s.
i wish it was that easy on the xfire. :P

As to your reference to the "nasty" Borla tips, you may find it ironic that the Borla tips are of higher quality than the stock tips. I think the stock tips are made of a stainless steel shell (that doesn't seem to polish to a really nice shine) that encases the muffler outlets, while the Borla tips are molded into the muffler case and seem to be made of a really high quality aluminum polished to perfection (I am not a metal jockey - so don't quote me on that!). If you put them side by side on a table in a sidewalk and asked innocent bystanders which tips are "nicer", I think every one of them would choose the Borla - they are quite the opposite of "nasty".
As to the reference to the shape, I agree that the stock tips match the bumper exhaust exit cutout perfectly...and that is a beautiful thing...that being said...the Borla uses ovals (I think some were actually round during the initial release of the Borla) and these ovals really give the exhaust cutout a nice fill. In general, I feel that oval and circles have a "soft" quality to them while rectangles and triangles have a "sharp" quality to them, and going from the "sharp" shapes of the stock to the "soft" oval shape of the Borla gives the look of the exhaust a really nice touch to the Crossfire. Also, being able to spot the polished muffler case behind the ovals adds to the quality of the entire package.
To each their own...one man's junk is another man's treasure...opinions are like certain orifices, everybody has one...I say toe-may-toe, you say toe-mah-toe...what you find nasty, others find tasteful...
yea, the borla exhaust is full stainless steel... as rust resistant as it get... i had a borla direct fit on my first car, the quality is undoubtedly there... from the metal used to the gauge of the metal even...
i agree on the ground effects/carbon hoods and such... never bought any, never will... heck i even got rid of the wing on our srt-4... performance is what i like, and making the engine bay look taken care of (powder coating parts, keeping things clean, adding power)...

hah dumb shi*z ! i'll have it painted two tone with racing stripes to **** them off if they keep it up...
