Crossfire Sales Are D.O.A.

Most people don't know about the Crossfire and I rarely see any advertising for them so it's no wonder sales are low. It's occasionally mentioned at best. When people actually see it they love it. I get lots of compliments and I'm sure there's a lot of people that would buy them but there's basically no marketing now and their original marketing was horrible.
I'm also worried about what it's going to do to the value. I'm hoping the value won't just drop to $10,000. What do yall think?

I ordered my Crossfire in September of 2003, the reason it was a special order was because they did not have a black with cedar interior available at the time. They told me it would take 6 to 8 weeks before it was delivered. It was finally delivered in March 2004, six months after I ordered it.
The MSRP was $34,495 and since I paid cash, I got it at (A STEAL) $32,995. Six months later the car was selling for $32,000. And another 6 months after that they were selling for $28,000.
Now you can buy the SRT6 for less than I paid for my Limited... So, in answer to your question. What is the breakeven, wholesale, DC rock bottom cost ? I would bet you can negotiate a deal for an unused 2004 Limited that is sitting in a shipping container somewhere for 18-22k.
If DC doesn't sell the inventory they will start putting them into rental fleets like Avis or Enterprise and then write off the tax loss at the end of the year.

I just purchased my 2004 Crossfire limited in San Jose, California, for 21k. Had just over 5k miles. I almost bought one from a Chrysler Dealership in Illinois. It was brand new and sat on the showroom floor since late 2004. They wanted 19.5k and it would cost 1k to ship... i just didn't want to wait 2 weeks to get it so i got one closer to home. I have gotten a lot of complements on the car, people think it cost a lot more.

Actual cost roughly per 50,000 Crossfires built = $4,000 more cost to DC for stopping production! That equates to Higher cost to build...of our Crossfires ! They should have put the new 350 engine 7 speed tranny in them and or better seats and options ! They're selling 300c's like popcorn so I guess they don't need to have the Crossfire on they're line either way it was just an experiment !

People don't like the Xfire for some reason. To me its one of the most beautiful cars I've seen. Anyway, two seats hurts it and not having 250 hp out the box does also. Thats the main reason.

...and the vehicle that will replace the DOA XF will be in a higher price class...
I will tell you where it has gone wrong, chrysler has blown it, they need to change there management team.
They have not advertised the xf to its full potential, especially here in the uk.
I have seen the advertisement once, not so long back. And since I have had
my xf a month ago. People have said did you see the advertisement on the
television. The interest was fantastic, so they have not advertised enough
to get the interest.
As I have said before the looks you get in this fantastic car, and them words again what is that car, that to me shows that chyrsler have not supported this car, its like buying a dog for xmas, and not looking after it,
chrysler should be ashamed of themselves.
I just don't get it.
you could say everyone in this forum loves this car, that's everyone thats brought it, get this out to the world, can any other car compare like for like.
I put it to you all name it. don't forget like for like in the world.
Come on chrysler employ me with this much heart you cant lose.
wink

Dan, You are right on the money, "They're selling 300c's like popcorn so I guess they don't need to have the Crossfire on they're line either way it was just an experiment!" I believe the Crossfire was an experiment by DCX and they never intended to produce the car for any length of time. Chrysler has a history of putting into production, a limited number of concept vehicles, example the Plymouth Prowler, to gauge consumer reaction then apply the style or theme to high production car like the PT Cruiser. It is no coincidence that the art deco Crossfire preceded the successful art deco 300.

Hi...
Dropping XF prices... so... if you don't wanna' lose $$$... do not sell/trade your XF...
Drive it... or store it... or buy another one... even the fortune teller does not know the long-term future for the value... maybe up... maybe down... maybe sideways...
I presume... not many bought their XF for an investment... enjoy it !

Dave you got it.
If XF owners like their car, they should drive and enjoy it. Every new car is going to drop in value and you will never receive fair price when you trade it in. As far as I am concerned, I prefer having a unique Crossfire rather than a hyped up, overpriced popular cookie cutter car.

Drive it!
Invest in stocks or bonds or some such stuff.
I don't care what mine is worth but here is how I look at it...
I paid 23k for mine, list is 36k so the way I see it I can put 13k of modifications into it and break even...
At least this is my twisted rationalization.
I agree, I bought mine because I see very few and thought it was one of the best looking cars I have seen. Paid too much, too little whatever, I LOVE driving it and plan on keeping it. If DC retires the car I guess that's ok to I have MINE! Smile and drive your XF and enjoy! I am smiling and driving mine today... TOP DOWN ... Have FUN!
We've said a lot of this before! This car is unique, to some of us it's just drop dead beautiful and to others it's just a curiosity, but regardless of which camp you fall into, it will absolutely get noticed, today, tomorrow and 15 years from now...I look at it as one of those "how the hell did they get that through marketing?" cars. If it holds up mechanically, and there are parts available, I think this car has some potential in the collector ranks. Not because of sheer performance, not because of after market add on potential, but simply because of the daring nature of it's styling, and there's a market out there for Haute Design.
But in the meantime drive it and enjoy it.

One thing about it...the Crossfires styling is timeless...ten years from now people will be staring at this car just like they do today and that makes ownership of this car "priceless"...

That's pretty ironic, because I bought my XF in December '05. As of January '06, my car was the 7th XF I'd ever seen. Since then, I've seen at least 1 per week.
In my opinion, they probably don't need to manufacture any more of them, but they are selling (at least in AZ).
I agree with the comment that the Crossfire production is coming to an end. The numbers spell it out, so what does that mean for owners? The resale and worth of a car is ultimately determined by the one willing to buy it. Low production and uniqueness are only a few factors in evaluating vehicle worth. No car in the sub $50k (even $100k) arena will ever be considered collectable as it comes from the factory, not withstanding competition history, celebrity status, etc. I would be absolutely amazed if the price went up in value. Remember, this is a car going out of production because it is not selling. Therefore, no one wants it. So why would people suddenly realize the error of their ways and seek them out en masse? No, I'm afraid they would not. Besides, there are several other desirable two seaters that are still in existence. Most people like strength in numbers, that is why there is a Bimmer in every other garage. Crossfire owners don't want to meet themselves at every other intersection. The era of the 50's thru early 70's collectible car is gone forever, so we are faced with disposable cars and trucks. In the modern era, the Crossfire is just another car. One that is quickly going out of production. As such, the Crossfire is depreciating over 20% a year, high by even US car standards and this is a European built car. My guess is we will see the Crossfire become one of the best used coupe/convertible deals to hit the planet since the introduction of the automobile. The replacement parts may become an issue but many parts have been made for a car line that has been around for 3-4 years, especially since it is one car with only one other iteration as a convertible. The engine parts can be found in their M-B counterparts. The knick knacks will find themselves on eBay to the highest bidder. If you are not in it for the long haul, then sell your Crossfire now. If you like it for what it is and have no compunction about the value falling like a cinderblock, then drive it and love it. The best deal will come to those who buy a used one only a few years old.
