gas prices are ridiculous...
today in ohio... premium went up to $3.02 per gallon. what bs.
what are the prices for premium fuel in your area?
what are the prices for premium fuel in your area?
premium is still under $2.00 here in michigan. i guess i should stop complaining, lol.
edit: oh man am i tired today. it's under $3.00, so close to yours. lol

Just shot over the $3.00 mark here today which is absolutely insane. These oil companies make me upset so I cannot even think about it. We are getting ourselves reamed!! I wondered why our local stations were so busy last night now I know...
Premium at QuikTrip in Tulsa - $2.74.9.
We ARE getting reamed. Exxon takes over number one spot from Walmart in Fortune 500 - the very next week gas goes up .17 per gallon.
THIS IS WRONG!!! They are making enough money (record profits) and continue to up the price. Where the heck are the people we voted into office? Why isn't there some kind of protest? All the arguments about shortage, Iran, not enough refineries is all BS! If that were the case - how could they be making millions of dollars in profit per second?
I am very disappointed with our governmental leaders. This is as bad as, maybe worse than, the whole Enron thing. This affects everybody - not just people who work for a particular company.
Shame on you, Exxon!

I filled her up yesterday in Cleveland, OH at $2.86 / Gallon (premium). My office is 50 miles from my home. Geeezzz adds up. We are getting HOSED up the NOSE at $3.00 / gallon.
Price in United Kingdom $7.00 U.S. ... God save the Queen.

i hate to rain on the parade but the oil companies are likely no more greedy than any other corporation. you can point the finger at them for environmental issues but there isn't much argument against their right to make a profit in a capitalistic society.
consider this:
exxon mobil had revenues of $332B the past 12 months and net income of $36B during the same period. that's a profit margin of just under 11%. that's not unlike many other companies. compare that to the greediest of all corporations, the ones you should really be complaining about... the banks. for example, citigroup had revenues of $75B and net income of $20B for a profit margin of 33% over the past 12 months. why not protest citigroup, bank of america, etc.? they are stealing your hard earned money every day with the government's blessing.
a real problem is that there have been no major oil field discoveries in the world in decades. the large quantity of oil that is available will progressively become harder to extract resulting in even higher prices. chances are that "peak oil" is already upon us. china and india are buying more and more oil to satisfy their industrialization. they're willing to pay big bucks to secure future oil rights. here in the u.s. nobody wants a new refinery in their town so refining capability is maxed out.
another big reason for the increasing oil prices is government/central banking. the u.s. federal reserve increased (i.e., inflated) the money supply in the u.s. a whopping 8% last year. it's not just oil that is going up in price, it's virtually all commodities and assets. oil is going up in price for the same reason that your house has gone up in price (somehow people don't get angry when house prices increase 10% each year).
what can you do to counter high oil and commodity prices? invest in oil stocks, gold, silver, fertilizer, etc., etc. demand that your congresspeople become fiscally responsible (i listed this second since there is not much chance of getting any fiscally responsible people in congress).
finally, want cheap gasoline? move to venezuela. you can fill your crossfire there for around $2.

I find it amusing when people consider it to be a right and not a privilege to drive an automobile. Y'all need to be looking at China and India for the reason why gas prices are rising. Unless we and they start taking more care with how we consume, we'll have a lot worse problems that $3 for a gallon of gas.

US policy seems to be coming around to some recognition of the problems ahead. Fuel consumption is the only thing that bothers me while driving our Crossfire, I don't really mind fuel at $7 per gallon, I would prefer to get the same performance (or more) with less fuel or perhaps I should say damage to the environment.
Remember the whole apples to oranges thing?
While it may be true that the profit percentage for Citigroup and others may be higher than Exxon's, I sign contracts with my financiers concerning what I am willing to pay to use their money for my convenience. This is federally regulated.
While, at my local gas station, if they decide to increase the price, I have no real say.
Also - if they decide to increase the price, the oil they bought beforehand at a cheaper price (and under my feet already in tanks at the station) also goes up in price. It is treated like gold, (up and down according to the market they create) although it is a consumable item. Nobody questions this - nobody has a say in this.
I am all for capitalism - but raping people in the name of capitalism is wrong! Making an honest dollar - or billions of dollars - is fine, until it becomes abuse. THIS IS ABUSE! This is morally wrong. They have us by the cojones and they know it. Our elected officials need to look into this. The line has to be drawn somewhere.
I'd say that's my two cents - but I don't have two cents - gas just went up again as I was writing this.
Those who DO own stocks in these energy companies are the only ones who are happy to overpay for gas and see prices rise, rise, rise. (Perhaps you?)
I'm not trying to argue for the sake of arguing - it just really ticks me off to see this kind of abuse. I can afford the gas. However, many people cannot - and like it or not - gasoline is a necessity in our society - not a capricious consumer item that only a certain segment of society can afford. (Starbucks, lobster, Crossfires, etc.)
Anybody see my point? Or am I just ranting and raving about something I know precious little about?

He mentioned the chinese as an example of how we should be. Again, the Chinese you remember where everyone rides bicycles is going bye bye. Like I said they have traffic nightmares now because of all the cars and are the third largest consumers of new cars. In 10 years they'll eclipse us easily. So following their lead would actually be a bad thing. China right now is like the USA at the turn of the century, ready to explode.

I'm not pointing fingers at anyone, just pointing out the truth.
