Default Vent smelling like dirty socks???

Yesterday was one of the first times I turned off the AC and just ran the vent on cool and it smelled like dirty socks in my car in no time flat!! I played with if for a while cranking it up all the way, then with AC on then with heater on and it only smells bad when the heater or AC is off and it just vents... why would that be?

SUGGESTIONS??

This happens a lot in cars depending on the way the venting works. Sometimes when you shut the A/C off and the vent routes differently, you smell a musty stink.

I believe it has a lot to do with condensation, mold, mildew, and stale air in a certain part of your ventilation system.

Try spraying Lysol air freshener into the intake vent below the windshield wipers. This happened with another car that I had and it worked great. Just make sure there is nothing stuck in the intake that would cause the smell.

Try this link. very helpful information from BOBS.

I also have replaced the pollen filter from Bosch. Got it at Rockauto.com for under $30 shipped. Good luck.

I used this stuff- "Klima-Cleaner" (link below) in my GMC p/u when it was starting to smell funky...worked great. I pulled the cabin filter, then applied it, and put in a new cabin filter afterwards. Its been a few months and its still fresh smelling. I had tried the lysol treatment first, it didn't work though.

One of the members here recommended pressing the recirc button when parking the Crossfire to dry out the a/c. I have been doing that and so far haven't had a problem.

Cool Re: Vent smelling like dirty socks???

Using the recirculating function will stop the smell/odor.

I eliminated that odor by putting Limburger cheese on the manifold. You won't smell the socks again. Works every time.

Press the recirculation button when you leave the car and after you have turned it off. The fan runs for 15 minutes and presto NO MORE SMELL!
