What should I look for to tell me he has no idea what he is doing. Ugh I hate having people work on my car.

Once he has the trim off, the windshield should remove just like any other car. A couple things to watch out for...When he's removing the trim, make sure he takes his time and doesn't bend any of it. Also, you may want to wash your car and put a thick soft blanket over the hood before he begins. I've seen some technicians try to set a tool down on the hood while they're working.

And when you are observing him/her... make sure you just seem very interested in the process. Takes the heat off of them somewhat and let's them work better.

As Stryfox stated in a previous thread:

The window surround just pops off.
Use a fiber stick or paint stick to gently lift it then work around it prying up to pop them off.
The top piece by the roof comes off first.
You can drive the car without it as it is not the seal, it just looks ugly.

So it snaps into place? That's nuts, how does it not fly off when I'm doing 120 mph on route 8?

MAYAman if you have a Windshield Doctor Auto Glass in your area. I would recommend either of them both have a good access to knowledgeable resources through their network.

Congratulations on a safe and successful repair experience. They seem to be so few and far between with the XFire.

Hey MAYAman, I feel the same way you do. I'm getting mine done next week. I curse that rock or pebble or meteor that hit my windshield. I showed the crack to several mechanics I know hoping at least one of them would say "It's small, don't worry about it". Not one of them said that. Here in Central Florida we have a company called YIKES. I've asked around and they seem to be the one in the area most people recommend. Still makes my stomach turn to let someone else take my car apart, but I don't have much choice. Let us know how you made out. Good luck, I hope it goes well.
