Default Damn You Mr. Clean!

Andrew,
Ever since you mentioned that you never (hardly) was your car in the driveway and use the self wash stations I had to give it a try and now I've become a complete car wash junkie! I can't leave the driveway with out trying figure a route to pass by my wash favorites!

It's more than a weekly routine...the freakin guys at the car wash know me now...I usually use the bay next to their resident "detailer" and we're on a first name basis. ARRGGHHH.

Damn you Mr. Clean...damn you!

Why are the self wash stations better than the driveway?

(they're not)!

Just the convenience and avoiding the necessary clean up afterwards...I've always washed my cars in my drive. We were all surprised a few months ago when Andrew said he never/or rarely washes in his drive, but at the self washes. Surprised because if you know Andy, he's the Felix Unger (F.U. for short) of our XF forum, many of us just assumed that he spent countless hours in his driveway getting his car to look as spectacular as it usually does!

Sorry, but I just got back from the Wash and my wife said "You were at the car wash again weren't you?"...."but hon, there was this muck in the wells and I just had to stop..." "yeah, yeah, yeah, you need to see someone about this obsession".

Hehe!

I like the driveway because I wash my car early, before my morning shower, and wearing rags that I don't mind getting wet/dirty. I also use the Mr Clean Autodry system so I don't mind leaving the car in the driveway to dry.

the benefits of the .25 car wash is… the ability to complete a through cleaning of the underside, wheel well areas, inside the rims and engine (all which many overlook or neglect)... and personally i am all about convenience.

a garden hose doesn't compare to a heated high pressure flexible wand imo.

you be the judge... now at 31,000 miles...

cheers!

My only question is this...I've used the self wash many times, mostly just to remove bugs after a long drive, but without using a sponge, i can't seem to get ALL of the dirt off...even after using the high pressure self wash, their is still a thin film of dirt. And so I can't dry the car because it will scratch it rubbing the film of dirt around...

Here in Australia, because of the Drought, we are on ever increasingly severe water restrictions, and we will soon be on stage 3 restrictions, which means no car washing at home, only at the car wash (recycled water), and soon down the track Stage 4 which means no car washing at all except for windows and mirrors.

I guess moving to Australia is no longer a consideration for Andrew.

All this talk makes me feel ashamed to ever let my baby get the least bit dusty. I think I will give her a bath and wax tomorrow.

I am now hooked. After reading the thread, I tried it out last night. I had 8 quarters in the change holder and 2 in my pocket. In less than 10 minutes I cleaned the entire car including the wheels and engine. With all the spokes on the SRT wheels, it usually takes me about 10 minutes to clean one wheel.

This morning, I pulled all the quarters from my change jar and have them in the car!

See, what did I tell you all...repeat after me:

DAMN YOU MR. CLEAN...DAMN YOU!

hehe...

Since it's 70 here today (global warming) I'm vacuuming and pulling the wheels for a nice little clean up. BUT IN THE DRIVEWAY!

Senna, we shouldn't be damning Andrew but in fact hugging him. We're not alone in our obsession. As I posted in a different thread, I went as far as rodding out the drain in the garage and I purchased a power washer. Time is important to me, so now I can do my obsessive/compulsive cleaning in my garage, and not worry about having enough quarters, or is it going to get dirty on the way home, etc. etc. etc.

<stands>
Hi my name is Adoni Apostolou and I'm an XF Cleaning Addict.

(Adoni...the tread is actually very much a compliment to our bud Andrew...but don't tell him, it's more fun to pretend to be mad...let's keep this between us ok? BTW...took the XF out to get fuel even though is raining lightly tonight...oops, guess you know what that means for tomorrow...)

DAMN YOU Mr. CLEAN!

I used to think that I was really **** about keeping my cars clean, until I joined this forum, and through it met Andrew. He definitely has raised the bar for me. Don't tell my wife. She already thinks I'm over the top when it comes to keeping my cars clean.

DAMN YOU Mr. CLEAN!
