Hello,

I just got my 2004 Crossfire from Florida where they don’t require front plates.

Since I'm in New Jersey, I bought a License plate kit from my local dealer, but there are no instructions and no obvious place to install it.

The kicker is that the front bumper is fully sealed from the bottom, so there's no way to see if the kit is mounted onto steel or just plastic.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you can get away with it, don't install it.

 

There has already been much discussion on this forum about personal opinions and avoiding legal requirement of the front plate.
Here in Ontario, Canada, law states a front plate is required.
When I went to pick up my new 2006 XF, I expected the front plate to be already mounted. It wasn’t.
The dealer said he did not have the heart to drill holes in the front bumper of this beautiful vehicle. He indicated that in about 1 year, Ontario will no longer require the front plate. However being charged without is $72.
So, when I got home, I did my own installation.
I fabricated 2 brackets (1/8 x 3/4 stock) with 3 bends in each. The bracket feeds through the lower opening of the upper grille. There are 3 bends in each, 3 holes in each.
Behind the grille in the center area are twin horns, each mounted with a fixed bolt. I removed the nuts and mounted my brackets on the bolts.
The other ends of the brackets fit and mount to the back of the license bracket.
NOTHING TOUCHES THE VEHICLE EXCEPT AT THE HORN MOUNT.
I did cut a piece of foam to fit the back lower area of the license bracket to make sure wind driving pressure does not push it back. I have about 1/2" clearances.
The fabricated brackets are assembled to the license bracket first, then fed through the grille openings, and mounted to the horn bolts.

In a year (I hope) I'll remove it. Meanwhile I'm legal.

 

Were these hard to make? Would you consider making extra sets for sale?

 

Of course, the first set is always not easy. If my XF was not already put away I would willingly post pictures and dimensions.
But yes, making multiple set could be done at a reasonable price.
My problem is that I'm in Canada, whereas most of the users would be in the US.
I don't have eBay membership, and I can't even start a new post on this forum.
However, I can do a CadKey design of the brackets and email to those interested.

I would be interested in a copy of your CadKey design of the front license plate mount. I am moving to the DC area and will need to mount a front license plate. I refuse to drill holes into the front of the bumper just to satisfy some law. Thanks in advance.
