Default VIN numbers

Can anyone explain a difference in VIN numbers for me, for example a 1C3AN65L15X056642 vs a 1C3AN65L25X056883? I know the last six numbers are build sequence but what does the L1 and L2 represent? Is it Limited vs Base? Roadster vs Coupe? Is it something to do with the accessory package? Or ???

For your VIN number...first, look through your windshield on the driver side on the bottom corner...all VINS are visible there. Second on the door panel. Search VIN here in the forum you'll see pics of what I am describing. plus, on the door panel, you'll find your build date.

Usually for a DCX product the first section of the service manual spells it out. I don't have access to mine right now but for my '00 dakota - the eight position is engine and 9th is called a check digit...don't know what that means, 10th is model year. Check the first page of the introduction section of the service manual.

Just checked an '04 manual: 8th digit-L- 3.2 L sohc 18 valve.
9th digit. - check digit - says "explained in this section" but I could not find anything.

Here is a quick reference of what the 2005 vin means by position.

The check digit position # 9 is used by manufacturers and government agencies to protect the consumers from theft and possible fraud. The formula for the check digit is not released to the general public.

1 Country of Origin 1 = Manufactured By DaimlerChrysler Corporation
2 Make C = Chrysler
3 Vehicle Type 3 = Passenger Car
4 Other K = Restraint System Front & Side Air Bags
5 Car Line N = Crossfire (LHD) P = Crossfire (RHD)
6 Series 5 = Base 6 = Ltd 7= SRT6
7 Body Style 5 = Roadster 9 = Coupe
8 Engines L = 3.2L V6 SOHC 18 Valve N = Superchg V6
9 Check Digit See explanation in this section
10 Model Year 5 = 2005 Model Yr.
11 Plant X = Osnabrueck Germany
12 -17 Sequence Number 6 Digit Sequential Number Assigned By Assy Plant.

Hope this helps.
