Default Cupholder Malfunction?

I know most people don't like how the cupholder works, and neither do I but. When I try to open my cupholder, sometimes it takes 2 or 3 presses to get it to open. Does anyone know if a little lube will fix this, or is there something else sticking, or does this happened to everyone. Should I just push harder? I know I press it all the way down, and it still doesn't come up. If this is normal, or its not, any ideas of how to get it to come up right the first time everytime?

~ mine does the same & i prefer the 3 push open option... this way if i accidentally bump it with my elbow it doesn't open.
