Default Intake

So I read everyone's thoughts on the intake system...I'm still dreaming up some way of improving it.
I did however go with the standard short ram. It sounds good and looks good, not sure if it increases anything. But it was only $80.
I had a hell of a time pulling those plastic pieces out behind the grill, so i could get a little more air. Anyone else got an Idea for improving your air intake???
There sure isn't any room in the engine bay to come up with anything. >>>

Isn't that breathing pure hot air now?
You may get more airflow, but it sure isn't going to be colder.

I don't think they increase or decrease anything but like you said, they look and sound good.

I really don't think its any hotter, I removed the intake ports behind the grill, so there getting a good amount of air. As far Hot or Cold...the stock intake or True cold air as everyone says, isn't really that cold...have you ever gone for a drive and after some time pop your hood and grab a hold of the stock intake tubes...yep, there pretty damn hot! So the air traveling into your engine is heated regardless.

If you build your own you can make one without the restrictions and baffles in the original air box.

I did mine a long time ago.

I like Stryfox's idea the best by bypassing the airbox. It's way too restricted with the air box.

How do you know this, did you flow test it? How many Hg" did you find the stock airbox lost compared to full flow throttle body?

I'm only assuming because I looked in the air box from the intake and there's 2 tiny slits for the air to pass through to get into the air box and then in the manifold. I'm no physicist but having a single open intake like most CAI on import cars yield more HP than a stock air box (even though ours has 2 inlets). I can't imagine it being more restrictive with a single 3" intake

All I'm saying is that based off my observation, stryfox's idea seems to be the best. Also when X'ed dyno'd his car with SI; having the Airbox off yielded 6 more HP.

I took my car to atco race way in N.J. and ran it.
It was .2 sec faster on average with the intake I made and a magnaflow muffler.
I know this is not very scientific because I ran it on different days.
I will say the crossfire is very consistent.
I ran 15.2 average of 5 runs with the stock set up.
I ran 15.0 average of 6 runs with the one I made.
My best run was 14.92 so technically I can say my car runs 14's lol. hahaha.
Oh and my car is an '04 auto...
I like the sound it makes, I plan on having the computer programmed but I have not gotten around to spending the money and having may car down while it gets done.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Stryfox,
The part number you listed before from summit racing (AVC-11096) is no longer available. Was it simply a 3" 90 bend? How tightly does it fit? Most tubing I've seen is all SAE, but I assume our intake is in metric.

If I remember correctly it is a 3" inside diameter on one end and 3.25 on the other.
The mass air ends need the 3.25".

I remember a while ago I read a thread that I THINK might have been posted by Stryfox. From reading your first post about removing those 'plastic things' from the grille? So, I am looking for the thread that showed how to remove the wind deflectors (plastic things). Any feedback would be great.

I got them at PEP BOYS for about $90 bucks...
Install is really easy...

1. Take off the black stocks tubes.
2. Put blue rubber sleeve on the engine cover.
note: the sleeve is 2 inch on 1 side and 3 inch on the other.
3. Tighten clamps.
4. The tube slides into the blue sleeve.
5. Attach Filters.

Has anybody heard from Woody on his intake pressure test, seems like he never finished testing on his website:

Don't forget to take the stock filters out or you will be running 2 filters per side.

How about some part numbers on the tubes and filters? Went to Pep Boys today and they had 3-4 different chrome tubes all with different degrees of angle. Which worked best for you? The packages all had stock numbers on them do you know what the #'s were for the items you used? They had a couple filters too but one was very elongated the other shorter. Any help you could give with the numbers would be appreciated.
