Default Custom ordering color on base model?

Hey Everybody!

A local dealership here in NC is selling new '06 Crossfires at a hugely discounted rate. Their ads say their discounts will even be applied to custom ordered cars. My question is this: I *LOVE* the "classic yellow" available only on the roadsters. I REALLY want a coupe in that color, most likely a base Crossfire coupe. Has anyone had any ever tried to get this color ordered on a coupe? Anybody ever tried to custom order a base coupe with a color besides black?

Honestly, I would try to find a used '05 Yellow Roadster with a few miles on it that still has the warranty. One, you'll really miss all the bells and whistles the Limited has to offer. Second, you can probably even buy a 05 Limited Roadster and get it painted that color if you really really like that color. Buying new isn't always best since these cars do lose their value quickly (due to a lack of market interest).

Just my $.02

This particular dealership is selling new '06 base models at $18,700 and Limited Roadsters at $26,900. My budget is under $20,000... so that's what has focused my search from used to new. I've never bought a new car in my life, and this would be a neat opportunity. I love convertibles (I drive an Eclipse Spyder now), but I prefer the Crossfires in coupes as to preserve neat boattail roofline. I wonder how expensive it would be to custom paint a used Crossfire in the yellow? I just think the coupes would look SO good in that color. Frankly the colors they offered the Crossfires in to begin with totally suck.

Heck you can easily get a Crossfire for under $20K in coupe form and have better options but it will be used and possibly not many miles. I've seen a base model and I'm not impressed, not if I can get a used one that's pretty much fully loaded for the same price (like I have) because a car can look awesome on the outside but if the interior is drab or not really what you want, you'll quickly lose interest. It's your money and it's totally up to you but I got a good deal on mine and if you think you got a good deal, then that's all that matters, I would just test drive both and then make a decision.

Chrysler is not going to help you with a yellow base coupe. If you check, you will find base coupes come in any color you want as long as it is black.

The only model in yellow is the roadster. Custom painting a Crossfire (for that matter any car) properly will cost you a LOT. You will want the sills, door jams, under hood and around the hatch painted. I think you will find a quality paint job is going to run perhaps into the thousands.

If your budget is limited to 20K and you want a Crossfire, check ebay and dealer lots for a very low mileage "near new" '05 or '04. All '04s are fully equipped like a limited coupe. The base, roadsters and SRT6s were added for '05. Otherwise, I hope you like black!

Properly painting a car easily costs 5k at least. Don't do it.

As there are no more crossfires produced, i do not think it is possible to custom order one.

Yeah I got the basic black model (price was right) and I have also thought about a custom paint job along with getting all sorts of the bells and whistles that are part of the limited model (I really want a set of electric seats along with some of the other trim details and of course a better stereo). My thoughts are getting a custom paint job in a couple years when it is going to start to need it anyway (yeah this car is going to be a long term keeper). But I am planning on spending about 5K at that time...

I think Chrysler (at one point at least) is a lot more flexible with the cars than you boys think. There was a base model coupe here in Charlotte recently that had leather seats. And yes there were the low back base model seats too... and they clearly weren't custom. I realize that the base coupes only come in black, but I guess no one around here has ever factory ordered a car? With enough money even American car makers will paint your car a color different than what that model offers, if it's a color they paint one of their other cars.

In any event, we'll see what I end up with. :-) I'd prefer a limited coupe, but owning two european cars before (DeLoreans) I'm scared of the cars maintenance history. If someone knew the right type of oil to run in them and such. It's not like the limited has THAT many more goodies anyways... heated leather seats and subwoofers are pretty much what make the interior different from the base model.

i think your actually the one who does not understand, they DO NOT make crossfires anymore. as far as your story about the seats, the dealer swapped out seats, not chrysler...they never made ONE custom ordered crossfire i assure you, and the seats in the base look VERY cheap, imo.

...anyways, i wish you the best of luck getting a yellow base coupe.

You can get the basic seats in leather from Katskin. They are just like the OEM. That's probably what you saw.

Didn't they make a special edition base model with leather seats, red in color and srt6 wheels?

Louie,

You can find a low mileage SRT6 coupe for about 20K. You are basically paying for the extra 115 hp and IMO its worth it. I would strongly recommend doing this. Its really worth the money. Plus it comes fully equipped. There were only about 3,000 SRT6's (coupes and roadsters) built to date and this model has been discontinued.

Here is one for 20K.

My car was Special Ordered, and they will not work with you on the changing of the color to yellow. I wanted my Blue Coupe to come with the cedar interior, but that isn't an option when you buy a blue coupe so I settled for solid black. So trying to get them to put a yellow body on a base model isn't going to happen. Sorry.

I special ordered my car too but its strictly off the menu of available combinations. You're talking about getting something for under $20,000. They're not bending backwards to custom paint a car for you when your willing to only pay fire sale prices. If you were willing to pay MSRP + then maybe they would talk but I think its too late for that. I too agree re. painting a new car yellow, forget it. I think it would probably be more like $7,000 + to be done right. I also disagree that the original colors offered all stink. I happen to feel that when this car is clean its beautiful in every combination I've seen it in. I really haven't seen one combination I dislike. I think they should have widened their combination options like putting the grey and vanilla interior in a black coupe too but other than making different interior/exterior combos available I thought the colors were pretty nice.

Thanks everyone for your input! I'll probably end up with a Limited coupe when it's all said and done. :-) That's what I've always liked the best. I have a convertible now, and while I love top down driving (my top STAYS down lol), I hate the wind noise/exterior noise a cloth top lets in, and the fact no convertible is totally leak proof. Mine just gets worse with age (it's a well maintained '01 Eclipse Spyder GT). Who knows, I may just go back to DeLorean ownership. :-)

Enthusiast, I've never driven an SRT Crossfire, but I really don't like the look of them. The Spoiler ruins the boattail rear-end, I don't care for the wheels, or the ground effects. I've heard they have pretty scorching performance, but it's not really worth it to me if that performance costs the looks of the car, which is why I'm drawn to it in the first place.

Speaking of customized Crossfires... here's an interesting car on ebay. It's got the base interior cloth low back seats and base sound system, yet is has an auto transmission, SRT wheels, and is red.
