Post Something interesting about the '07 XFIREs

The 07's are 06's.

I was told by my dealer that Chrysler has a surplus of 06' Xfires sitting in a factory somewhere (never touched), and they have decided to issue New VIN#s / Re-Paint a few and pretty much re-release them as 07's.

I found that very interesting.
I question the legitimacy of his statement; Though I would NOT be surprised.

I say b.s. It would not be worth the trouble.
I also don't think it would be legal as the build date is not suppose to be changed.

Oh, and I heard dealers saying the same thing in '05 when they had lots of '04s sitting around.

I was at the NY Auto show last week, Chrysler had a Crossfire at the show it it did state it was an '06, if the story wasn't bs, i think Chrysler would be smart enough to show it as an '07.

Well he is right about them being in storage, I just recently purchased an '05 roadster, never been tagged or titled. No VIN change or paint color change. Just a new '05.

Everything I have read (here and elsewhere) has stated that the only true differences between the '05s and the '06s was some color choices. '07 has brought new airbag requirements. I think it unlikely that they would go back reset all the VIN #s and retrofit new airbags. As to the repaint idea, that is just silly. You can't just give a new car a new color. They would have to paint all the "hidden" areas and most likely dismantle a perfectly good car to paint it a different color.

Considering that Chrysler is having to offer huge discounts to sell the '06s and that they just brought them out in '07, I think it safe to say IF there are any '07s they will probably offer them in '08 or later.

Do they offer a bright "non-metallic" red on the newest Crossfires? (what ever year they are) Or is it still the same red that they always had.

The '04 - '06 has a key to turn the pass side airbag off.
The '07 needs to have a weight sensor in the pass seat to know if the bag should be on or off.
It is for children's safety.
It is federal mandate for new cars in '07.

The Crossfire already has multistage airbags. Stryfox is correct about the requirement for the weight sensor. It's being mandated because some people can't figure out that its a bad thing to put a rearward-facing child seat in front of an airbag without deactivating it first. Here's a link to see what happens just in case you're interested:
