The entertainment value alone with this car is worth the price of admission. I'm not talking about all the admiring looks, and compliments and what not that automatically come with Crossfire ownership. I'm speaking of the "Entertainment" that you get everytime you go to the friendly Chrysler dealer. Because you never know what they're going to tell ya next.
I stopped at a two local dealers today, just trying to find a dealer brochure to pass along to a friend who seemed interested in my Crossfire.
The first dealer had two new ‘06 base models on the lot, and even though he couldn't be friendlier, he really didn't seem to know much about the Crossfire. He mentioned the manual tranny was a 5 spd, he didn't know the SRT's only had automatics, and he had never seen one in Alabaster like mine. When I asked him if they were going to get any 2007's, he asked his manager, and he said they weren't making any 2007's. Oh, and of course, they didn't have any Crossfire brochures.

Spitzers in downtown Akron. I walk in and an elderly salesman asked me if he could help me. When I told him I wanted a brochure for a new Crossfire, he informed me they didn't sell Crossfires. I said, "You don't sell a CHRYSLER Crossfire at your Chrysler dealership"? He said nope, they weren't certified because it was a "foreign" car. I then asked him did they sell Chrysler Mini Vans, and he said yes. I said, well they use to come with Mitsubishi engines, so were they not "certified" to work on those foreign engines too?
He wasn't aware that Chrysler Mini Vans came with Mitsubishi engines, but he would look into it.
Ya gotta love it.

 

Yeah the dealers where I got my xfire at were highly incompetent with the car. They didn't know anything about it including the size of the engine and horsepower. And what really gets under my skin is when I ask a question I sometimes throw in a guess-answer and this guy automatically agreed with my guess without thinking.

Initially when the Crossfire came out I would have said that your salesman #2 may have been correct, they may not have been in the right tier to acquire the Crossfire or the SRT models. The way it was explained to me when I bought my car in 2004 was that dealerships had choose what tier packages they wanted to sell and then they had to take every car in that package. My dealership want the SRT4s and Viper Pickups so they were required to take two Crossfires a year, but if they weren't in that tier they couldn't order them. However, with the slow sales I wonder if Chrysler really stuck with that philosophy or if the my dealership fed me a line of malarkey.

 

MY understanding was this simple: In order to sell XF's you had to be a certified dealer with a certified mechanic. Meaning to sell them you had to come up with money upfront and pay for your mechanic to go to XF school. The last person anyone should talk to is a salesman. Try to find a certified mechanic and pull him aside.

 

Yeah all of my dealers and techs are totally illiterate on crossfires!!

 

My local dealer told me the same thing. Had to be certified to sell Crossfires which meant you had to also have a trained mechanic whom could work on it. They only could sell used Crossfires. They could change the oil; which is now questionable because the last time I took it in they OVERFILLED it!

I ended up buying a used one from a Lexus dealer. Service is an hour away. I'm out of warranty now so I'd better find a local german repair shop quick!

 

That is so true! I think I will go to the local dealership and ask questions about the crossfire just kill a few minutes or an hour. Then just get in my XF and drive away. Every time I drive by the dealership the salesmen look like a bunch of fat buzzards sitting around a golf cart looking for prey. In fact I will go now and see how much they know.

 

My dealer didn't know anything. The first time i got in a Crossfire and was checking it out. I couldn't figure how to unlock the doors from the inside. The button on the console looked like a widow lock button to me. Be we figured it out after her read tha manual for 10 minutes. Also he didn't know how to open the hatch. He was looking for a release button, because the handle on the hatch didn't work because the doors were locked.

 

For the record i had a great experience buying my xfire, the salesman who sold me mine actually owned an alabaster convertible for a while. Also I got a heck of a deal, under $17,500 with discounts and green sheet. The name of the dealership is Don Flier Motors in Pacific Missouri. If anyone is interested in buying an '06 xfire pm me and i will give you their number. I would definitely recommend buying from them.

 

Now that's funny Romio. Totally off subject, but I got inside a Ferrari 308 coupe at a dealer auction in Florida once (under the mid day sun) and I couldn't find the door handle to open the door to get back out.
There were no keys in the car, the windows were up, I was trapped for a couple of minutes, and it was starting to get pretty warm inside too.
Finally somebody came walking by, and I waved my arms to get their attention, and I asked them if they would open the door. Fortunately, they spoke english and let me out of the darn thing.
He then showed me where the door handles were "hidden" underneath the armrests.
No wonder Magnum P.I. was always jumping in and out of the Ferrari he use to drive on his show, he probably couldn't find the door handles either.

 

LOL that would of been a good death though. Apparently convenience isn't available on higher priced cars.

 

Bought mine used from Oak Ridge Chrysler in Oak Ridge, TN. They have a Xfire tech and the owners daughter drives a ltd convertible.

While the salesman was not up to speed on the Xfire he summoned the owner and he was able to either answer or find the answer to all of my questions. Proceeded to make me one heck of a deal.

 

I had a great experience with my dealer in Indianapolis. They have three XF techs.

 

From the sound of things, I guess I'm pretty lucky here. My servicing dealer is a Chrysler, Mercedes, BMW dealer... Sooo I really don't have an issue at all with service on my Crossfire. They just get it done right. Although my Crossfire only has 7k on it, I never had an issue with my Mercedes or Chrysler service at this shop at all. They were awesome!!

If you are ever in Yakima Washington, stop in and say hi to the folks at Hann Motors. They may be a little expensive to buy from, but the service can't be beat. And no, I don't work for them... Just like the service.

 

After reading all the horror stories here over these many months I asked the question bluntly while signing all the papers to my new ride last week. I was relieved to learn that they have two certified xfire techs on staff. Now we have to wait until I need a service job to see just how "certified" they are.

 

Tell the techs that your trailer hitch is acting a little funny. And your four-wheel drive is acting up.
