Question 2004 holding its value?

Wondering if the '04 is holding its value? Have a 3 year lease running out in August - do I buy or turn it in? Purchase price is around $19K.

Depends on the mileage. I got my '04 with 30K miles for $17,000.

I've got 26K on it now. I'm wondering if they negotiate at turn in? I'd like to keep the car - I bet there are only a "handful" of them in central Ohio.

04' 6 spd with less than 30k are blue booking at 14k in CA. If they won't negotiate the buyout price, give the car back then buy it from the dealer a week later at a reduced price.

I'd say GIVE IT BACK. That's why you leased the car in the first place right?

I seriously doubt they will negotiate the price with you but its always worth a try if you really do love the car that much.

the value online anywhere is depending on where you are located. an '04 coupe in Maryland with under 20k miles is booked at $21,500. I paid $19,500 for mine with 5,685 miles. you might want to look for something newer for under 20k.

I bought an '04 Coupe 6 spd with 4K miles in Dayton, OH for $18.5K. Give it back unless they drop at least $2K. There are three 05's in the local Dayton paper all listed for $24.9K and have been listed for a couple weeks. A dealer in Cincinnati has several NEW '06 Base coupes for sale as well. Chrysler.com will list them on an inventory search.

I would definitely give it back. There will be a TON of 2005's coming into the market from the Chrysler auctions that were never sold, so you should be able to find a really good deal this summer.

The dealer where I bought my roadster was advertising new '06 Crossfire coupes for $19,800. I think they have about 3 or 4 left and I believe they were all manual transmissions.

are they base? because a lot of 06's coming are base models missing a lot of goodies.

I'm new to the site. Wish I had found this sooner. Was wondering where others might be. I had an 04' Coupe on lease for 39 months. Lease was due in July. Went in to see the dealer this weekend and they made a deal on a 06' Roadster Limited. Picked it up for 26K.

Buy out was $19,800. They would not re-negotiate the lease. Was told that leases are insured against a drop in value at turn-in. They take the cars to auctions and are paid by the insurance companies against a loss. So even it goes for 12 or 13k at auction, they get the difference on the lease buy-out anyway. Dealers here in NJ have no control over the car. They say it is pick-up by trailer and they never see it again. Stops them from buying it back.

Anyway, my advise is to turn it in and make a deal on 06' if you can.

saturn in hilliard has a perfect '04 ssb with only 5,000 miles for $19,990.

if your lease is with chrysler financial... they will not negotiate the buy out... their leases are insured.

I'm new to the site, also. I live in Harrod, Ohio (outside Lima) and I just picked up an 04 at Marysville, Oh and paid $18k. I believe its a base model but only 27k miles.

They only had 1 model in '04, in '05 it became the limited minus the auto dim mirror.

Yeah paid $19,500 for my SSB '04 with 5,685 miles. The 04's might cost less, but i don't think that makes them have any less value. I would rather have a 04 with 5k miles for $5,000 less than a '06 or '05 with 5k miles. Cant see the price going down too much more, they already sell a few grand below KBB. And that would be crazy to be paying like $15k for a car of the caliber. I know there are some on eBay for low, but mostly they have more miles. It will be interesting to see what they go for at the dealers in a few years.

Ben, you're right if you are thinking about those who paid retail in '03, '04. But I think we've seen most of the depreciation on this car. Even prices for new '06's are depreciated numbers. I venture to say that most of us who bought a XF in the last year have not seen much depreciation.

Exactly... it depends on when you bought your car.

What we have now is a car that was once moderately expensive, now anyone who wants a Crossfire can afford one. If you bought early, you got screwed big time because of DC's lack of marketing and advertising which contributed greatly to poor sales and current deflated prices. For those that bought low, they did good...

I feel for those who paid retail. I was looking at an 05' a year ago and the dealer would not budge from $36K. I figured an 05' model in 06' was left over inventory and tried to work a deal. He just walked away and left me to look. Luckily I got real busy at work and did not have the time to shop around.

I purchased a new 06' limited two weeks ago for $24,800 and I may still have over-paid.

I love my Xfire but I don't think I would ever have bought one if the price stayed over 30K.

Chrysler marketing sure hosed this one up. They can never launch a similar type of car and expect top price.
