Can I jack this thing up by the diff/crossmember ?
Howdy All,
Can I safely jack either end of a Crossfire up with a big 'ole floor jack ?
You know stick it under the front crossmember or under the rear-end and jack up one end of the car at once ? I previously had a '97 Cougar with rear IRS and the diff was mounted on rubber bushings so you could not put a jack on it without tearing up the bushings. The front crossmember also seemed a little thin to use to jack up the whole front end of the car. I'm used to old Mopars with massive "K" members in front and solid axles in the back. It sure is handy to be able to get one whole end of the car up in the air at once. I'll be installing the new Magnaflow exhaust myself so I need to get the butt end of the car up high enough to do the work.
Thanks.
Slim

The front crossmember is probably stout enough to handle the weight without twisting or misaligning anything. The rear has no central jack point to speak of.
Personally, I will stick with jacking up one of the front sides first (front jack point), use a stand, and then jack the other side. It's just safer and this car is more than stiff enough to handle the torsion.
