Engine misfires in the rain.
I have an '04 Coupe that I bought used with 19k miles on it. The only issue I've had with it, is that it does not like to get wet.
We were driving home from Dallas Sunday evening, and hit a pretty rough thunderstorm. The engine started sputtering, and the check engine light came on. This has happened twice previously when the car has gone through the car wash. I've had the codes checked, and it's a misfire that causes the check engine light to come on. It's still under warranty, and I asked about it at the dealership, while they were taking care of some other things, and I was told that small cars like our are susceptible to this. I don't know how true that is. It's obvious that water is getting to the engine and causing one or more cylinders to misfire. Has this happened to anyone else? Any advice?

Please check your car to see if it is equipped with any kind of aftermarket "Cold Air Intake". Many of these types of intakes do nothing more than just ingest water when it is wet out. My SRT-6 has been through some of the most horrendous rainfalls I've ever seen and never once had a problem with ingestion.

If it only had one spark plug per cylinder I'd bet it was a bad wire... not sure how the 'two plugs per cylinder' arrangement works. If both plugs share the same wire I'd bet that's what it is.

I sucked up some water and had to replace the Plugs; Filters; and MAF sensor.

Your dealer is feeding you a line of bull a mile long. Time to make him eat a little of it. Our cars just don't miss when they get wet. For cripes sake, I bet if you took it to a Mercedes dealer and the service rep told you that, he would be given his walking papers!! It may be time to take it to a more reputable dealership. I hate to say that, but you may have to do it. I'm lucky here, my dealership sells Chrysler, Mercedes, and BMW, plus they have an awesome service department. So if you are ever near Yakima Washington...
