Default UK spec cars

Hey there fellow XF lovers,

I have just got my sticky fingers on an '06 XF coupe manual.

I have noticed a few things 'missing' on the UK spec... or am I just a dumb *** brit ??

I have read forum entries which mention:

Cup holder
Auto-dip rear view mirror
Tyre pressure monitor

I don't seem to have any of these ? Is that typical of a UK spec (I am told there is only one UK spec car)

Also - In the boot (trunk for our cousins over the pond), there are a few velcro ties on the rear bulkhead - what is supposed to go there ?

Any ideas ?

1. If the car is used, they may have replaced the cupholder for the storage bin. Cup holder is behind right of the hand-brake (e-brake to Americans!!!)

2. I think they stopped the dimming rear view mirror after 2004/in 2005.
My 2005 doesn't have it.

3. Bottom left of dash the light should illuminate when you crank the car up.
The light only comes on when one (or more) of the tyres pressure drops.

Thanks - all I have behind the hand brake is a storage bin with a arm rest lid...

I will try dropping the pressure on a tyre and see what happens...

Do a search on cupholder replacement - or something like that.
Somebody has before and after photos of the cupholder/storage bin.

If it a "Base" model then you do not have the TPMS option.

Ok here we go ... learn from my mistakes as a UK owner + 2 years...

Uk spec = something between limited an base...

1) No cup holder (reading the forum it is a complete load of crud that does not really work)... no loss, only americans really feel the need to drink and drive!

2) Trunk velcro - this should hold a roll of tools including the special one that removes the lower front grill to allow towing, very important (see 4 tire pressure monitor).

3) Auto dip mirror - never part of Uk spec, I think such a device is illegal in the EU.

4) Tire Pressure monitor - I made the mistake from reading this forum that this was part of the UK spec ... cost me Ł500 as a lesson... we have no monitors... when someone tells you your tire looks flat believe them!

Hi Seayard,

Thanks - Some people are blessed with good looks, money, model wifes (that is a wife that works as a model !)... but me... I just have a great stable of cars...

Most fun... Volvo... just to see their faces.

Most head turns... XF

Most pain in the ****... Ferrari

Most uncomfortable... Alfa

Most odd... Saab

Now had my '06 roadster for two whole weeks!

In my boot, right on the rear bulkhead in the middle I have a first aid kit attached by velcro, under that is a long red plastic thingy. This is probably a red triangle...

If you lift the mat up, under there is the tyre repair kit...

We did have the cup holder, I spied an '04 coupe in Tescos a while back with the cupholder. '06 models don't have it, just a small storage bin just the right size for a mobile phone...

As far as I can tell, we have the Ltd spec...

Edit: More news...

As far as I can tell, the right hand side light cluster has a full complement of lights. My seat belt light doesn't appear to work, but if it chimes every 30 secs like my ol' Mustang did then I bet the Chrysler exec who had the car before me pulled the plug on that...

The left hand light cluster I think has some lights missing. On the bottom row nearest the temp gauge, the US cars have a steering wheel adjustment light, which I presume lights up if you yank on the steering wheel adjustment lever while driving. We don't appear to have that. There are no lights above the windscreen washer light and coolant light. That leaves quite a gap at the top and I bet that's where the tyre pressure light should be...
