Newbie questions
Hey folks,
Great forum and great group.
I have done numerous searches to try to answer the following questions but have had no success so here goes:
(1) would a 2004 coupe come from the factory with the fleece or paper filter?
(2) if you only drive 4,000 miles a year is a once a year oil change sufficient?
(3) will chrysler roadside assistance cover towing due to a flat tire (customer service has not given a straight answer on this yet)?
(4) what is the usual life expectancy on the all-season continentals?
Thanks in advance folks!

Welcome. I can help you with the first three questions.
It came with paper and I am still using original paper filters.
Synthetic oil doesn't break down so changing the oil once a year if you don't exceed 4,000 miles is okay. I store my car so I change the oil when I store it and then again if I reach 5,000 miles before it goes into storage again. This is probably excessive and doesn't need to be change as often as I do but I am a little obsessive.
The answer is no, tires are not covered by Chrysler only by the tire manufacture.
Sorry I can't help you with this one my car came with the Michelin Pilots and so far I have 15K on them and they still look good. I will definitely replace them again with the Michelin's.
You didn't say whether you have bought one yet or not. If you did congratulations and if not what are you waiting for?

thanks for the replies folks!
and yes I am a new owner, 2004 alabaster coupe, 6 speed, love the car.
idaho's reply re the paper filter makes me wonder: why have many opted to change the paper to fleece? or idaho why have you retained the fleece?

well others have answered most of your questions, but as for the continental tires... of course it depends on how you drive and what roads you are on... but I would expect no less than 18k unless you are really heavy on them... mine have 20.5k on them and still looking rather decent although showing wear... but will probably change them at 25k...
I had to change my Conti ASP front tires at about 19,000 miles, my rear tires are original with 23,149 miles on them and starting to show a little wear.
zless,
The only reason I am still using the paper filter is because I bought a dozen of them at $9 a piece when I bought the car and will switch when they run out in about six years. Since MB has been using them for years with excellent results in the exact same motor their no need to toss what I have just because the fleece ones came out. Especially since I change my oil at every 5K miles instead of 7K.
By the way good choice on colors. We did a quick survey on one thread and Andrew, +fireamx and I determined that the Alabaster coupes were the fastest.
