Default Service Intervals

Perhaps it's the overwhelming amount of manuals I need to read, but I was wondering about the service intervals. I'll ask the dealer again, but thought I'd get opinions here.

1. Should I have the first oil change early? Like at 1,000 miles? and then should I go 100% synthetic?
2. Is the 7,000 mile service interval realistic, or should I do it sooner? The service guy said 7K, the salesman said 3K. They need to get their stories straight.
3. Should I totally trust the FSS in the dash to decide when I get an A or B service to the car? According to that, I'm 177 days late for an A service, and the car has 400 miles on it and I've only had it a week...

Thanks in advance all. I am really enjoying this forum. Lotsa good advice here.

Oh Boy!!...you are going to get a different answer from everyone on this one. I go strictly by the FSS and had 10,000 miles at the first service. Since the car is new and only has 400 miles on it, I would reset the FSS (twice, to get it back to serve A) and go from there. And yes, use full synthetic Mobil 1 0W-40. It does not break down like the old dinosaur juice. I would be willing to bet that your oil is still so clear that you can barely see it on the dip stick or finger. And mine was still that way at 10,000 miles. Granted, 99% of my driving is interstate...but I'm impressed with the maintenance scheduling.

In the end, it is going to come down to whichever theory you subscribe to.

The car calls for the use of synthetic Mobile 1 0w/40, stick with that. I too go along with trusting the FSS way of thinking...

I'm far from being an expert in this area but...

Frankly, I bet that you could safely go well beyond 7,000 miles between oil changes if so inclined.

I also trust the FSS.
