So, when i turn on the air, or vent, there comes after 5 minutes a really bad smell. I don't know how to describe it, but its BADDD. The smell only occurs when the air or vents are open. It's been like that ever since i got my car last year, but it's bothering me now b/c its summer and i need the air. Does anyone know what the problem is??? How do i fix it?

1st thing you should do is replace the cabin filter. While it is out I would look inside and try to remove what ever you can see or find. If you don't see anything you might have to have it professionally cleaned.
Do a search for the filter there was a how to thread before.

 

Also if you use your AC when you shut off your car off hit the Recirculating button. This will pull out any moisture left in the vents.

 

Like previously stated you should immediately replace your cabin filter. I just did it myself, got the part from Advanced Auto. Do a search on the forum someone gave instructions on how to do it with pictures. But it is very simple. Mine had never been replaced when I bought it used recently and I was getting a musky smell in the car. Good luck. I bet you its mildew. The cabin filter is located underneath the glove box to the left.

 

Bacteria can build up in the intakes and create a nasty smell. Spray some Lysol in the intakes (NOT the engine air intake) ! a couple of times. That often clears it up as well.

I posted about this a few weeks ago. The dealer in Plano, TX changed my filter and cleaned the ducts (somehow). Then they proceeded to spray some vanilla candle smelling #$%& in the vent system. It made the car smell like an old ladies house for weeks. It has finally gone now. Do try Lysol first! (unless you like vanilla candles )

 

What Crossfire LTD said plus another idea for you. About 5 minutes before you are going to shut the car off shut the AC off, leave the fan running. This also dries up any excess moisture. We had this problem in the PT's and it was all but eliminated in my car using the above method. Start with a new cabin air filter and use the above tricks and you shouldn't have tp spray anything.
