Default fuel filler compartment flood

Hey,

We just had a torrential rainstorm. When things dried up I took a spin to get gas. I popped open the fuel filler door to find quite a puddle in the compartment. I soaked it up with some rags I keep in the car for polishing. There seems to be a drain - at least there's some kind of hole beneath the gas cap which I figure must be a drain. Never had this happen before. Maybe it got plugged somehow?

Sounds like a plugged drain for sure. You can probably blow it clean with a bit of compressed air.

Don't know your location, but down here in the country the mud daubers (insects) plug about every small overflow, drain line, or vent on the tractors, four wheelers, motorcycles, etc. I found it to be a good idea to check these items frequently in the summer. They even plug up the mufflers on weed eaters and chain saws.

Gross! Summer is great, but insects suck. I'm in NH and there are tons of annoying ones, but not those. Thanks.

The drain exit is about 4 inch's behind the rear tire, 1/4 tube.

The drain tube sometimes can easily be seen from underneath the car if its pulled out a lot however be it that its so close to the huge rear tires grime. The dirt usually kicks up and plugs it. I had mine pushed upwards toward the hole in the well and that prevents any clogging as its tucked up. Easy FIX though.

I mean, it's the frikkin' underside of the car! I don't know whether to be impressed or frightened.
