This just proves we all drive differently... I drive A LOT for my job and my little one gets about 320 out of a tank... that is actually when the light comes on so I think it would still have a little more to go, never tried it yet We took it on a road trip to eastern wa at 80-85 cruise set we still averaged 29 mpg. I have always driven gas guzzling suvs and I think this car and my gas mileage are awesome!!! we have a sticker in our gas guzzling truck and I am contemplating getting this on the frame around my plate that says:

"there is more to life than gas mileage".

after that road trip we stopped checking, we didn't buy the car for the gas (**** it take premium for goodness sakes) we bought it for fun and like all you out there I also have never burt the rubber, giggled when I blew off a car that thought they were hot nor seen how she really hugs the road.

Regardless of the miles, enjoy the ride!!!

I have had my '04 Xf for almost a month now and I have taken it on a few road trips as well as use it as my daily driver. I can get 325 -360 miles before my gas light goes on. I have 4 other vehicles, two of which gets better gas mileage than this and the other two is a suv and pu. I did not buy this vehicle for great gas mileage, instead I bought it to enjoy the drive.

The last two tanks I checked my fuel mileage I got 29 and the other 31 mpg. I live in a rural valley area with fun windy but not sharp turned roads and very few stoplights and a good number of small mountains.

I did take one risk during my long drive I spoke about, got 420 miles and I bet you I was pretty darn near dry because it took more gas than the capacity of the tank.

The Crossfire is actually pretty predictable when it comes to gas mileage, the 300C is a doozy to predict because of the MDS.

But you are totally right, I drive the Crossfire for the enjoyment of driving not MPG.

I think a lot of people don't figure MPG correctly, every car I've ever owned (S2K, WRX, MX-5) there are always people on the respective forums getting EPA MPG or better doesn't figure.

And the ones who mention speeding and such but still get EPA or better, just a little hard to believe.

FWIW I get about 20 MPG.

It's not hard to beat the EPA figures on most cars. I measure mine by filling up and measuring how many miles until I fill up again and divide it by how many gallons it takes to refill it. I'm sure everyone does it the same way but I'm just saying I'm pretty sure I'm figuring mine right and I get 29-31 mpg out of mine. BTW I drive pretty conservatively most of the time, but I do like to get on it a little sometimes.

I'm sure its possible to get XX mpg, but EPA numbers were recently lowered because of avg person was getting no where near it.

Maybe its just me.

Man, I'm a old-school street racer and I find myself trolling for victims everytime I'm out. It's a good thing that I'm not in a streetlight to streetlight kind of town.

MPG vs. ET?

they had to lower it because the fuel companies are spiking our fuels with alcohol, try this test, find your avg. mpg on premium, then go to the race track or airport and tank up on some real fuel, not the high octane stuff but race gas premium like 98 octane, then you'll see why they lowered the fuel mileage regs. guarantee you'll hit at least 22 mpg, if not better.

I checked the first few tanks. I really don't care. Like LOLA said..." It takes premium!" I bought the car because its fun, hot and my wife doesn't like to drive it!!!

I'm generally running the 91 octane with the occasional 93 when I find it at a good price. I like Hess and it seems to like me too, or rather, the car likes it. As an example, my tripometer is at 159 and still above 1/2 tank mark. I think that says it all. I really haven't driven it "hard" this weekend so that may be a 30 MPG week. We'll see when I need to fill up again. I never let it drop below 1/4 of a tank and I do use some injector cleaner about every third tank full.

Interestingly enough, unless the engine is built to take advantage of higher octane fuels, using anything higher than the recommended level doesn't improve anything.

The octane level required is governed by several engine characteristics with a major one being the compression ratio.

I have a hard time finding 91 octane gas around here. it's 87 for regular, 89 for mid-grade, and 93 for premium. So I use premium.

91 Octane is the norm for premium, here anyway. Right now it's the lowest it's been in a while. My Hess station is at $2.95 per gal. Last week it was $3.09 that's a fair reduction. I wish it were back to the days when it was .39 cents a gallon, that would be great.

Typically in my area premium is 93 Octane, but I have had a SI tune for 94 Octane, so I need to add an Octane Booster to gain 10 points. I also have a Sprint-Booster installed, which has degraded my MPG.

So I don't think I would be considered a poster boy for MPG, but I do get about 30 MPG; if I keep my foot off the pedal, coast alot, draft behind semi's, and always drive on the down side of hills!

By the way if you have never been in Illinois; hills are hard to find!

You are correct in that it's 93 octane, What was I thinking? I have used something that I like, it sells for $4.99 at Advance autoparts and it cleans the injectors and acts like marvel mystery oil in the top of the engine. Gives me great mileage as well. I suppose that if I didn't throw the $4.99 for it, I'd have enough for another gallon plus some extra. The car seems to like it though, I put it in about every 3rd tank full.

Are you by a chance talking about the Lucas "tune up in a bottle" upper cylinder lube and fuel system cleaner? I love the stuff. I just used some today in the XF for the first time.

I used to average between 21-23 mpg in mostly city driving and got as high as 33 on the freeway, but that was in Ohio where its VERY flat and straight. Usually I got between 28-30 on the freeway. I'd suggest taking it in and seeing if there's something wrong with it because unless your racing the hell out of it, there's NO WAY you should be getting 14 mpg.

My 2005 Limited 6 spd Roadster has been averaging around 22.5 mpg for the first 955 miles of life. Probably 90% of those miles have been top down.

With just under 2,000 miles now, I am averaging about 21MPG. That's on premium 93 Oct, mostly city driving, and rarely making any attempt to be conservative. I tried to shift at 2,500 rpm in town for awhile, but it just felt silly and now I'm usually over 3,000. Like many before have said, life is about more than MPG! And this is coming from a guy who was hesitant to buy a XF because it required premium gas!

Since it has been hotter than Hades lately, my A/C is almost always running...
