Default Little holes in lower grill?

To save me from crawling under my XF, could someone please tell me what the little holes are for in the lower front grill of the car? When looking at the XF from the front, on the right (driver's) side you will see two of small holes and on the left (passenger's) side you will see one small hole. These look like they have been "punched out" of the small square spaces. What are they for?

So you can remove them...not anything major or worthwhile to the car. There are 2 bolts and plates behind the grilles that hold the bumper firmly in place

The little tool that is a wrench on one end and a straight rod with a point on the other end, is what is meant to be used to remove these grills. Insert the tool into these holes and the grills will pop off. It is only necessary to do this to access the front tow hook, or remove the bolts holding on the bumper.

Thanks for the information. I'm telling you something you probably already know, but this is one of the best website forums ever. For a relatively small community, the wealth of information that we collectively have is amazing.

You know I was wondering what that was when I changed out my bumper.
