Exclamation Interior lights not functioning

OK - I am naming the car Christine at this point. 2005 Limited Coupe, 6 speed - in to dealer the second week in a row, third replacement module that controls interior electronics.

First the interior lights were not functioning automatically when hitting the remote or opening the doors. Then the defroster would cause the radio to go all static. Was told by the dealer they knew which module it was. They are on the 3rd module, and Chrysler Corporate tells me they don't know when they will have the part available and I need to pick up my car, return the rental car and talk to the dealer. The new modules will have everything working but then the spoiler wont work and keeps beeping. I was told by the dealership the 2005 upgrade in 2006 won't work in my 2005 and that is why they are getting the spoiler issue now.

First, the car is STILL under warranty, second, I am not driving the car when intermittent electronics are failing. After me politely pitching a fit to Corporate, Chrysler has agreed to continue the rental car for only 5 more days and can not tell me when a new part that will be covered by warranty will be available. They will not send a remanufactured part or authorize a used part because they won't honor my original warranty at that point.

MO lemon law is 4 times to the dealer and 30 business days out of service. Any suggestions besides me telling Corporate that they will continue to give me a rental car and honor their warranty?

Suggestions? I love the car - just not the problems I have had. I am a girl and rarely "get on it" with the car - it's garage kept, not out in the rain, only has 24k now. I was told by two dealerships that this just doesn't happen with the Crossfire - anyone?

Never heard of this happening, my 2005 Roadster Limited purchased in 2004 has had no electrical problems. Alot of these cars depending on when you purchased it have been sitting on the docks or dealer lots for a long time. make sure that the tech is a "certified" XFire tech, and not just a regular DChrysler tech trying to fix your car.

The electrical issues I had with my car (icons lit up, engine would momentarily stumble and actually died one time, radio would turn off) were caused by one of the battery cables being loose on the battery. An obvious problem but one that can be overlooked because it is so obvious. Another thing your dealer can try is to spray contact cleaner on all module and plug contacts. As alluded to by CrossfireLTD, over time corrosion may have developed on the contacts of electrical components and this may be cause of your problems. Also, methinks the 2005 upgrade to 2006 story is bunk and your dealer is just trying to stall you while he stumbles about for a solution.

As for a rental, you may ask if your dealer will cover the cost instead of going through Corporate. Mentioning "Lemon Law" may help with this. The last time my car was in for warranty work my dealer told me to keep the rental until they had my car fixed. My problems were entering the Lemon Law realm and I suspect my dealer knew this and wanted to keep me as happy as possible.

The dealers you talked to are right when they say that electrical problems like yours are rare. Far more common is that a component will permanently fail instead of working intermittently. And unfortunately, an intermittent operation is one of the most difficult problem to diagnose and correct.

Thanks for the feedback. He is a certified Crossfire tech (I made sure of that) and they went through all the contacts. The story about the upgraded 2005 to 2006-7 component came from Corporate. The dealer has been wonderful, Corporate has been horrendous (second round, second Chrysler product, second crappy treatment from Corporate).

I did suggest to the dealer about the unfortunate choice I am moving toward being lemon law action - he won't be affected as I bought it from another dealer who does not have a certified Crossfire tech, so I'd have to go back to that dealer.

Kind of a crappy situation for me to be in, but like I said, I love the car - this car - and I just want this car to have all the features function.

I guess I will play it by ear on Wednesday when they extra 5 days of rental expire. The dealer's policy is not to have anything to do with the rental card with warranty work. Oh well. Will keep my coll, and fingers crossed for an outcome that has all my electronics functioning properly. Until then, the car can sit on the dealers lot while I drive the Caliber that Enterprise has furnished - wow, what a cheap feeling ride after the Crossfire. Even my '01 Sebring Coupe with over 85k miles rides better than the Caliber.

If the remote was not working in the past... meaning the doors would not lock and the interior lights were not working.. then the fuse was blown... and has nothing to do with any "module", unfortunately most dealers do not know of this problem as it is very uncommon and is usually caused by the driver himself and not normal car wear... such has happened to me...

I do not know much about your defroster issue and if it has any connection with the remote and interior lights failure, but I do know that if the right fuse is replaced... the interior lights will work and so will the remote... this i am sure of... and if it does not work than it can only be the wiring which is extremely rare and absolutely could not fail itself...

You can change as many modules as you want it will do little for you...

The cause of this problem is that somehow the fuse was fried through circuitry mismatch it could of happened when a bulb was being changed similarly to how it happened to me...

That was the first thing I tried was the fuses. The both remotes don't work, so the dealer told me they ran further diagnostics and came to the conclusion it was the module. I really appreciate all the feedback I am getting from Xfire owners. Thanks a bunch.

Don't always believe the dealer. I also had a problem of my door locks and interior lights not working. A forum member suggested a blown fuse. I took it into the dealer and suggested maybe he should check the fuses. He came back 10 minutes later statingthe fuses are ok and it needs a new module air pump assembly. I reported this back on this forum and a member suggested changing out the fuse. Guess what it was the fuse and have had no problems ever since. Needless to say my crossfire will never go back to that dealer.

OK - that's scary. I will again suggest replacing the fuses, I know they checked it out but it can't hurt.
