Major Breaking News
I just got an answer back on a letter I wrote last week to someone at the Chrysler Info Center. I told them that I wanted to know if they could shed any light on the blurb in Autoweek magazine that there would be a 2008 Crossfire and that production was starting up again this summer. I told them that I and many others here have leases coming up and I'd love to order a new car if they're going to be taking orders again. I wasn't interested in a leftover 2006 or 2007. Today I got a response from Will, The Chrysler online dialogue rep. His answer was, "Sorry I took so long to respond however I have good news. The '08 Crossfire model is scheduled for production. I am not aware of any re-design changes happening but it will be back in production. I hope this helps." If they're building it, I'm there.
Interesting. I wonder what the chassis/engine would be since the split from Mercedes. Probably would be an entirely different car with more off-the-shelf stuff and a World engine of some sort (The ones sourced from Mitsubishi).
I'm guessing it'll be exactly the same. I'm sure MB would be happy to sell them all the engines and parts they need and MB still owns a piece of Chrysler if I'm not mistaken.
Very Interesting...
I was just on the Chrysler website and you are now able to build and price a 2007 Crossfire. I know everybody in Europe is on holiday throughout most of August so I guess it is possible Karmann could restart production this Fall.
I wonder about the supply of 3.2 SOHC motors now that M-B is using the 3.5 DOHC V6 in the C-class, CLK and SLK ? Any Benz experts out there who can educate us?
I know Karmann is only too happy to keep the Crossfire line running since they invested so much in tooling and design. I have to wonder how these full price 2008 models will sell since there are plenty of cut-rate low mileage used Crossfires to be had. Also, since so much has happened in the sportscar market in the last few years a $35,000 215 Horsepower Crossfire has some pretty stiff competition these days !
Now If they could drop in the new 3.5 DOHC V6 M-Benz motor, or at least offer it as an option, The sales numbers might improve a bit !

WELL, at least Chrysler can't say that parts for warranty repairs aren't available. If they were not available they would not be making new ones...

Does the '07 come with a 2.4L 4-cylinder or is the Chrysler website screwed up?
On further examination, it looks like it always selects the "P Package" for the base model and the "A Package" for the Limited. Both of these give you the 3.2L six. It still seems odd to me that the webpage would mention the 2.4L four at all. I wonder if this is a hint of Chrysler's plans for the '08.

You have to select the "P Package" to get the 3.2L. If I select 2006, it goes back to the default 3.2L 6-cylinder.

Notice the details (as you stated above), it also shows 16" wheels and a tilt wheel.
I fail to understand what would compel Chrysler to re-start production for a 2008. For the entire life of the car, they have been overstocked by at least one full model year, (although even now "new" 2005's are still surfacing - after sitting 2 years dormant) and end up disposing of the inventory at fire-sale prices (30-40% below list prices). How can this be a money maker? As it stands, they are just now making the warehoused 2007 model year stock available as the 2008 model year begins.
I love my car, but history has shown either the market doesn't want it, or Chrysler can't sell it, or both. How much more good money would Chrysler throw after the bad at this point?

I also see no reason why Chrysler would continue to sell the Crossfire. They certainly will not have any 2008's since there are still several dozen 2006's that have yet to be sold. They would have to make significant changes either price wise or engine wise for it to be sold for model year 2008.
