Default No Console/Armrest Padding...Inexpensive Solution

It only took me a few minutes into my first Crossfire test drive to discover a minor annoyance with the interior that I have not seen addressed in this forum. If it has been addressed, my apologies.

I found it very annoying that there is no padding whatsoever on the center console. Being over 6 foot tall, my elbow rests on the center console lid with the seat is back as far as possible. My solution may not work if your arm does not rest on the console lid.

My inexpensive solution turned out to be as simple as placing a black XL Knee Pad over the lid to the center console. This provided instant relief to my elbow and it allows
the locking mechanism to continue to operate as intended. Since a kneepad has openings at each end, the console lock remains functional.

A knee pad can easily be installed and removed without modifications or glue.

I have taken several friends for rides and not one of them has noticed that their arms had been resting on a knee pad.

As a new member, this forum has been great and has taught me several nuances of the Crossfire that I would not have gotten anywhere else. My father really liked it when I showed him how the hood opens to 90 degrees. Again that little tidbit came straight from this forum....thanks.

My Crossfire is a 2006 base model that I bought new on 8/24/2007. The Chrysler powertrain warranty and low price made the purchase a no brainer. My only regret is that I now have to sell my totally original 27k mile 1973 Mercury Cougar that has won its class at National Cougar Shows.

I am approaching 1,000 miles and will be performing my first oil change in the next week or so. I cannot wait to get a closer look at the underside of my Crossfire.

Welcome aboard!
I only recently bought my roadster and also dislike the sore elbow experience. I will take a shot at the kneepad solution. I'm 6'3" and have a few in the drawer from my volleyball days.

Thanks again!
Max

I resolved that problem by using a CD case by stuffing it with a couple of small towels for padding. It is oblong in shape, grey & black in color and fits perfectly between the seats.

Hey,

Another 6'3" guy here who couldn't resist the Xfire's charms and stuff myself in there. I'll try your kneepad solution. Thanks, and enjoy your car.

imabenz -
Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the forum.
I was just noticing today how hard that console is. I'm 6'2" and may just have to try your solution.

I'm short enough that my arm rests parallel to the console. My left arm is a problem though, I've left what seems to be a permanent elbow mark on the soft door ledge. Tried armor all but it won't come up.

I may not be over six feet tall (5' 11") but I never had a problem with sore elbows... I tend to keep both hands on the wheel...

Welcome to the Forums... glad you found a solution to your problem... keep sharing!

I made arm rest pads and covered them. Pretty easy and make a big difference.
It also keeps your elbow above the cupholder so you don't pop it open.

I seem to remember coming across an aftermarket solution that actually contoured the same shape as the console lid. They looked pretty sweet and you could even get your initials or the xfire logo embossed into it. I think I have it saved on my home computer. I'll look when I get home...

I think this may be a remedy, a bit pricey though at 89.00 euros ($125.50 US + S/H and VAT). It seeems to be a bit padded, hard to tell from the picture.

I bought kind of a kitchen towel with nice grayish square design, I placed it folded on top of the console, and is pinch between the back of the console and the backwall, my concern was discoloration of silver plastic console. However the CD case sound good too. I have a rectangular one that might fit.

Hmm, nice... but I wonder if they can make one using silver leather, like what's used in the late 70's and early '80s Corvettes.

My quest to bring accessories to the Crossfire owner now includes custom pieces from a German Mfg called PogiParts.

Besides the normal array of chrome trim rings and other baubles, they actually have padded covers for the console. If you look at www.pogiparts.de you will find them there. You may have seen some of these items on other websites, but Pogiparts claims to be the OEM mfg. I have been in communication with them and they are willing to let me sell their parts in the US.

I have been thinking of getting together a group buy to launch their inclusion. The elbow protecting console covers might be just the thing. The prices shown are in Euros and you would have to add shipping and taxes. If we can get a large enough group buy going, There could be as much as a 20% discount.

Here are the three designs and their current price in Euros

With silver wedge embedded $89 Euros
With silver X(fire) embedded $89 Euros
With embossed X $75 Euros

If you are interested Please indicate which one and I will make arrangements.

Srt Six...Thanks for effort, what about shipping and VAT? This is where the real expense comes in on ordering from Germany.

I like this one. From the online description, it seems that it replaces the one on the console (I think). As long as it doesn't require drilling, it may be a good piece to have.

Try this...

http://www.andreschak.de/quaces/inde...9ecd6abaf9fbaa

Scroll down and you'll see a variety of padded leather armrest pads which mount using the factory torx head screws. Kinda pricy but nicely done.

Of course you could just remove the silver plastic insert, add padding and wrap it in cloth or thin soft leather and re-attach to the console lid. I'm looking for a large enough scrap piece of microfiber or thin suede to cover mine. Total cost will be virtually zero not counting an hour or two spent in the garage.

"Fast, cheap or good, choose TWO".
