Crossfire Tire Pressure
Today, when I started driving my Crossfire the warning light for tire pressure came on. There wasn't much I could do until I got home and it turned off before I got there. I'm wondering what the minimum pressure is for the tires.

Rather than start a new thread, I suppose I'll ask my question in here (which also pertains to the tpms). The light has been on in my car since I had new tires put on a month ago - and today, while driving down the highway, the light went off and still hasn't come back on... why??

Gotta love this Chicagoland weather.

And there is no need to remove the smaller black panels closest to the fire wall.
I'm usually a reader not a writer but I had something happen a few weeks ago while I was buying new rear tires. My passenger side rear tire was tread-less after 11,000 miles so I went to buy new ones. I wanted to replace my Continental All Season but they were on back order so I bought Continental Sports Contact. I like the tire company I buy my tires from and I've always been happy with their service.
The low tire pressure light was on when I took it in so I was surprised when I drove away and it was still on. I waited a couple days and went to check the tire pressure on all the tires. It was the front passenger tire that was low. But - the new rear tires were at 42 lbs and the aluminum tire valve caps were all gone and crappy looking grey plastic ones were on all the tires.
Tire company said:
- New plastic tire valve caps because the aluminum ones fuse to the valve stems and they usually have to cut off the valves when replacing tires. I went to Pep Boys and bought new ones that looked like the originals.
- The tire pressure should be higher than 33 lbs because the tires are low profile.
Questions:
- Why did my one tire wear out so quickly - and no I never rotated the tires?
- Tire valve caps fusing to stems seems a little weird since they came on the car?
- If I had run with 42 lbs in the rears would that have extended my original tire life?
Thanks,
Mark

Mark... I hate to speak ill of your tire shop, but I believe that they did a number on you! I would never - ever - darken their doorway again! I just put the same tire on my car and the proper pressures are as indicated in your manual - 33-34 psi!
Also, The car comes from the factory with the metal caps and they do not "fuse" to the stems! Someone just wanted to either: 1) pick up a nice set of metal valve covers for themselves; or, 2) demonstrate their "superior" knowledge and exercise their authority...
I would stay far - far - far away from those folks!

I'd be willing to bet my warning light comes on in the morning. The temps here have gone from 85-90 day/ 65-70 night into the 60's day and low 50's and upper 40's. I keep mine at 34 lbs.

well they don't actually fuse, but aluminum will corrode just enough to be difficult to get off....plyers have to be used...stainless work better, but plastic does nothing but maybe keep the dirt out...and really that is all they are for anyway...each to their own...but if using the fancy aluminum...be sure to put a little 3-1 oil or something of this sort on them, or just routinely take them off once in awhile and check pressure...a good tire shop, which I have a very good friend that owns a chain of Goodyear stores, will put your pressure at the tire's recommended psi...tires wear out for a lot reasons, improper air pressure, the biggie, alignment, driving style, the roads you travel everyday, shocks, springs, struts etc can help wear tires as well. Sometimes its just a bad tire...tires are usually neglected the most on cars...
Just had mine serviced, after which the temp dropped to 42 and the light came on. Stopped at garage and was told the tire sensors are a pain and don't worry about it. Went home and checked tires and all were at 32, which I increased to 34 and the lite hasn't been back on.
Checked the tires on my stored Xfire today. Apparently I bought it with 38 pounds in the fronts and 36 pounds in the rears. I checked the door tag and lowered fronts to 32 and rears to 33 pounds. It is set when cold. Garage has been 54 for a while. Hope this doesn't mean tomorrows trip will be with lights on dash. Ron

We experienced the tire light coming on when we were at the Fall Tail of the Dragon. Being up in the mts. and away from a service station, I was unsettled.
I have since learned that the tire pressure drop 1 pound for every decrease of ten degrees.
We had some cold days this winter and the light did not go on for too many of those days. So........
