These warranties are not in addition to the existing miles. It is total, as in when your odometer reads 70,000 or the calendar says that your car has been in service for 7 years, the warranty is up.
I have the 8/80,000 which came with purchase. I will drive it about 6k a year.
Tod - What do you recommend?

If your car has the 8/80 Powertrain warranty, then it was Certified. This was done by a 5-Star dealer before you took ownership. There is a "wrap" warranty from Chrysler that extends the full 3/36 warranty out to 80,000 miles. This way you will have coverage for any acc. items /electronics/cooling system, etc. in addition to your powertrain. To add this onto a Certified car is: Retail $1,770, Our Price $1,320. This price is only good if it is purchased within the first 12 months of ownership and I was purchased as a Certified car. If you are outside of your first 12 months, there is an additional fee of $200.

In early Oct '07, I purchased from a used car lot a 2004 Ltd Coupe with 22,000 miles on it. That dealer wanted to sell me a third party warranty for $2,500. In checking with Chrysler, I learned that I could transfer the remaining part of the 7/70 drive-train warranty for $50 thru "their" website, as I was the 2nd owner on this low mileage car. While arranging that warranty, I read about the Max Care warranty that would supposedly give me "bumper-to-bumper" coverage out to 7/70. I paid $1,200 for that coverage. It was all done thru the Chrysler warranty website; easy.

I was disappointed to read here that maybe my fogged, hazed headlight units may not be covered. I haven't had time to visit a Chrysler agency to check this and a couple other things out.

Todk64 - Yes my XF had over 36K miles when I bought it.

Re: CarMax warranties, I would NOT recommend them. My friend has them on two cars he purchased from CarMax. Most of the repairs he has had to have could not be done by CarMax; he was sent to a local "participating" Ford dealer. The cars sit for days waiting for Ford to haggle with CarMax as to what really needs to be done, how much it's going to cost, rental cars, etc. CarMax sends their people out to check the car before repairs are made. Once, his Explorer sat for 10 days before CarMax and Ford could come to an agreement about what was covered and what wasn't. It is like this everytime he deals with the CarMax warranty.

Whatever you want in a warranty, talk to Chrysler and get it directly from them. There are so many options e.g. mileage, years, deductibles, that you will find one that fits your needs. If you are like many XF owners who don't put on a lot of miles go with one that provides coverage for more years and less miles; if you put on a lot of miles and don't plan on having the car but a few years, go the other way. In any case, whenever I take my cars in for service, I just drop them off, pick up my rental (they pay for it all after the first day) and the repairs are Chrysler's problem. I pay them $100 per visit and that's it. There's no negotiating (arguing) with a third party.

BTW, I have no relationship with Chrysler other than I find myself at this point in my life owning 3 of their products - XF, Sebring Convertible, and Pacifica.

Again, There isn't a Direct website that goes through Chrysler. Chrysler refuses to cut out the dealer on any of their Service Contracts. I would be glad too look up your car in Chryslers database. I just need the last 8 of your VIN, miles and the first 4 letters of your last name to see if there is a Chrysler Service Contract on your car. The $50 transfer fee looks like a red flag to me.

Thank you for this information and one more question.
Is the specific product you mention above, transferable should I sell?

V12:
If you purchase the additional coverage on a Certified car and trade it in, you can get the balance of the warranty refunded back to you, or you can sign off on it and the next owner can have the remaining coverage transferred to them for a $50 transfer fee.

Hey guys, I hope I've been able to get out all the quotes that people have asked me for. There has been a dozen or so. If I did miss anyone, please let me know. It has been kind of hectic here. We are having a Grand Opening of our New showroom and its the end of the month. Also I forgot to mention that all of these contracts also need to have Sales Tax added to them. Our local tax rate is 6.5%, there is also a 12 equal payment / interest free program through Chrysler that we can get you set up on.

Just got the Max Care Extended Warranty to match my Lifetime Powertrain on my '06 Xfire Limited Roadster. Tod was $700 cheaper on the plan then any other dealer. Thanks for the quick response Tod.

Default Chrysler Max Care Extended Warranty & CPO

Tod (or others),

If you buy the Maxcare, what is the advantage of the Certification process?

I believe that if the car is Certified, the cost of MaxiCare is less. I'll let the expert have the final word.

As an Example. I quoted some one a MaxCare warranty for a Certified Crossfire for around $1,300. This extends the 3/36 to 8 years or 80,000 miles. Most of the MaxCare 7/70 warranties that I've been quoting have been $1,600 to $1,800. The reason why the warranty is around $500 less, is that it costs the Dealership that Certified the car around $500 to Certify it. After completing the 125 point inspection we have to do the next scheduled service, then pay Chrysler $500.
So why would you care if it was a Certified car when you could just buy the MaxCare warranty? If you bought an SRT-6, it didn't come with the extra powertrain warranty like the regular Crossfires did in 2004 and 2005. Also if you purchased a prior rental vehicle or a 2006 it was also exempt from the 7/70 powertrain. If it is Certified, you now have an 8/80. Also all Certified cars must have both keys, floormats, owners manual, full tank of fuel, have a clean car fax, and be completely detailed.

WoooHooo! I am in! '05 SRT 6 with 32 miles and in service date of today! Thanks for all the help Tod, I was in a real time crunch to get the real scoop and even know you were at the doctor's office you took the time to set me straight. You not only gave me the truth on my in service date that the Chrysler sales folks couldn't, you saved me $1,500 bucks in the process.

For those of you who don't know, I had put a deposit (purchased) an SRT sight unseen and the in service date was in question. Chrysler told me I had 2 weeks to buy an extended warranty before my 3/36 was up. It was late at night when I found NeverEnough on this forum and he steered me to this thread and recommended Tod. I called Tod at 4:15 PDT and low and behold he picked up, took my newbie questions and called me back with all the answers in just an hour or two. He even recommended that he could sell me a warranty but if the dealer was at the right price I should get it with him. Well the dealer was at $3,000 through AUL (only one year in service and 36 BBB complaints for AUL) so I passed on that one. I think I will spend my money with that Ohio guy...

Sorry for the windy post...just a little enthusiastic.

Captain Jack that's great to hear. What dealer did you buy the car from? I got mine from Tom Ahl, with Tod as my salesman, and was very happy with the way things went. I think you'll be very happy with getting the warranty your looking for through Tod.

Jack, did you end up driving it home? Or are they shipping it? I'm glad this whole thing worked out. Now, if only they messed up and they give you the lifetime powertrain! We'll see. Get back to me in a few weeks and I'll see how it was set up for you.
