Hi - semi related question for all of you Kumho buyers... when you replace the tires on your car, do you have to buy new tire pressure monitor sensors or can you use the existing ones? I was at Chrysler today getting some parts and the guy was telling me that you had to buy new sensors when you buy new tires. Sounds expense!! I know I could avoid the whole issue, but I hate having lit up warning lights on my dash.

The only reason you would have to replace the Pressure senors is if you change out the wheels. A lot of aftermarket wheels will accept the stock sensors, but some will not and require an aftermarket replacement. No need to worry about it if all you're doing is replacing the tires. I do agree though, that you should have the "batteries" I guess that's what they are. Replaced at the same time. It would suck to have to remove tires just replace a dead battery...
So, that implies that the sensors are on the wheels and not in the valve stems? The current Chrysler cars with TPMS seem to have it in the valve stem and they have to be replaced with the tires... at fourty bucks a pop. Very stupid system. The dealership said that the Crossifire would be the same, but much more expensive. But then again, they know absolutely nothing about Crossifires... When I went in for my warranty inspection they had no idea what to do so they gave me a general "peace of mind" inspection instead. Grand total: $25 including tax.

Thanks for the information, and believe me, the dealership has not impressed me... but I figure there about ten Crossfires in Ottawa and about zero Chrysler mechanics who are competent to work on them. In any case, the bumber to bumper warranty expired today (still two years on powertrain, though) so for any non-powertrain issues I'll be looking for a decent local garage that specializes in Mercedes.
I absolutely love the car - but I hope somebody out there can fix it when it breaks.

It would be valuable information if anyone can tell us what size battery does the sensor need? I think that is a good idea to change batteries when replacing tires, but it would be good to bring your own new batteries specially when going to a tire shop.
Do the wheels have to be reinstalled in the same location or can they be moved around without confusing the ECU?

I had a tire shop do mine and they switched the position of the wheels(I can tell by the curb rash locations) There were no issues at all, the car never missed them or saw a change... Everything works 100% with no further programing or adjustments needed.I don't know about the batteries, as I didn't even think about it until now. There may be no batteries at all. I know the systems works off radio frequency transmission. I wouldn't be surprised if they are charged internally as the wheel turns...

I just got my rear pair of Kumho SPT's installed by Discount Tire. It cost $85. Is that normal for mounting and balancing? Seems kind of expensive to me.
The break down was:
Unmount tires ($13 x2): $26
Mount tires ($13 x 2): $26
Computer balance ($15 x 2): $30
Tire waste fee: $3
