I got a set of them last week. I like them too. Very nice tire. Defies the low price. Quiet, Smooth, Grippy. Great overall. Would by them again, no question.

Can't beat $492 Plus Shipping for a complete set of tires for our cars.

Yup, they are hard to beat!
(Got a set of 4 being delivered next week, will put them on my Stern ST-1's & then Roadster, I think).

Question Re: Kumho SPT at tire rack cheap!

Just curious...are the Kumho SPT's you bought an All-Season or just a summer tire? I'm looking for an all season tire...need to replace all 4 tires.

Thanks.

Hi - semi related question for all of you Kumho buyers... when you replace the tires on your car, do you have to buy new tire pressure monitor sensors or can you use the existing ones? I was at Chrysler today getting some parts and the guy was telling me that you had to buy new sensors when you buy new tires. Sounds expense!! I know I could avoid the whole issue, but I hate having lit up warning lights on my dash.

the stock sensors are reusable, but I would install a new battery while demounting from the rims.

The only reason you would have to replace the Pressure senors is if you change out the wheels. A lot of aftermarket wheels will accept the stock sensors, but some will not and require an aftermarket replacement. No need to worry about it if all you're doing is replacing the tires. I do agree though, that you should have the "batteries" I guess that's what they are. Replaced at the same time. It would suck to have to remove tires just replace a dead battery...

So, that implies that the sensors are on the wheels and not in the valve stems? The current Chrysler cars with TPMS seem to have it in the valve stem and they have to be replaced with the tires... at fourty bucks a pop. Very stupid system. The dealership said that the Crossifire would be the same, but much more expensive. But then again, they know absolutely nothing about Crossifires... When I went in for my warranty inspection they had no idea what to do so they gave me a general "peace of mind" inspection instead. Grand total: $25 including tax.

Find another dealership. Those guys are obviously idiots and know nothing about modern cars. The sensors DO NOT HAVE TO BE REPLACED WITH NEW TIRES! Yes the sensors are mounted TO the valve stems, but the valve stems are made out of aluminum and don't get replaced. The sensor itself IS inside the wheel, mounted to the inside flange where the valve stem comes through. If you take the tire off and look, it's a small rectangular box. These sensors are not meant to be replaced unless they fail. I just had my tires replaced and there was NO ISSUE. I even deflated one of them to make sure the senosrs were still working. The next thing they will tell you is that the sensors have to "excited" or programed to the computer, that is also a load of crap. The computer "looks" for them automatically. There is nothing that needs to be done in any way with the senors when replacing the tires. Take the car to a tire dealer. The tires will be cheaper, and they will have plenty of experience with TPMS systems.

Thanks for the information, and believe me, the dealership has not impressed me... but I figure there about ten Crossfires in Ottawa and about zero Chrysler mechanics who are competent to work on them. In any case, the bumber to bumper warranty expired today (still two years on powertrain, though) so for any non-powertrain issues I'll be looking for a decent local garage that specializes in Mercedes.

I absolutely love the car - but I hope somebody out there can fix it when it breaks.

Any Mercedes Mechanic will feel right at home working on it. Given the vast percentage of shared parts, if Chrysler discontinues mechanical parts, I'm sure the MB SLK320 parts will work just fine. Repairing the car is not one of worries. MB will always be there and they never have a problem with getting parts for older cars...

It would be valuable information if anyone can tell us what size battery does the sensor need? I think that is a good idea to change batteries when replacing tires, but it would be good to bring your own new batteries specially when going to a tire shop.
Do the wheels have to be reinstalled in the same location or can they be moved around without confusing the ECU?

The TPMS on our cars isn't as sophisticated as alot of systems now on the market. I know even Kias have the system that tells you which tire low and what the pressure in each is, but the Crossfire does not do this. It doesn't matter what position the wheels are switched to, it just sees a sensors output and triggers the generic light for a pressure fault. I know, as I've had to check all 4 of them to find the one with low pressure (its always the last one). I had a tire shop do mine and they switched the position of the wheels(I can tell by the curb rash locations) There were no issues at all, the car never missed them or saw a change... Everything works 100% with no further programing or adjustments needed.

I don't know about the batteries, as I didn't even think about it until now. There may be no batteries at all. I know the systems works off radio frequency transmission. I wouldn't be surprised if they are charged internally as the wheel turns...

do you think the exact pressure is given to the body computer, or is it just a low pressure set point?

I believe it to be a set point. I don't think the actual pressure is transmitted. The manual says they are triggered once the tire reachs a 10% loss in pressure. That equates 3.6 PSI on the SRT-6. I actually tried an experiment, and I "think" it worked. I put the tires up to 40 PSI and drove them for a day. I then dropped them back to 36 PSI (a 10% drop in pressure) and the light came on. So I then dropped the pressure to 32 PSI with the light remaining on for about an hour. I then put them back up to 36 PSI and the light went back off. It would seem that they "learn" based on what you set the pressure at above 36 PSI.

I just got my rear pair of Kumho SPT's installed by Discount Tire. It cost $85. Is that normal for mounting and balancing? Seems kind of expensive to me.
The break down was:
Unmount tires ($13 x2): $26
Mount tires ($13 x 2): $26
Computer balance ($15 x 2): $30
Tire waste fee: $3
