Test Drive
Hey Everyone, This is my first post on the board. I'm in the market for a new (slightly used) car, and I'm 99% sure a crossfire is the ticket. I'm going to test drive a few in the next few weeks (all 2004-2005, under 25K miles, $13-15k) at a somewhat local dealer.
My question to all of you is what should I look out for when I test drive? I have looked over the site pretty thoroughly, so I have a reasonable understanding of the TSB's and such, but are there any other things to watch out for? Also, I've always been against buying extended warranties, but do you think it may be wise in this situation? I've bought a few slightly used volvos in the past with under 30k miles, and repairs on them for the short periods i owned them probably cost 5x as much as an extended warranty would have cost- bad luck, i know.
Any input would be greatly appreciated, and once I get one I'll post pictures.

Welcome! With a handle like yours (-007) this James Bond special will do you just fine! I've had my '05 Roadster for 3 months and had no issues. I think everyone here would agree that if you can find a xfire that the original factory 3/36 bumper to bumper and 7/70 powertrain warranty is transferrable, it would be a fine choice. This would be a 1st owner transfer ($150) or from dealer stock. Do a search for warranty or warranties and read more about it. Chrysler Certified is an easy way to go.
Best of luck!
Best of luck!
You will love the XFire.
Common complaints on the non-SRT models are non-working seat heater elements, fogged head lamp covers, rear hatch rattle (easyily adjustable), throttle lag (drive-by-wire - easily cured if it bugs you buy a "Sprint Booster").
Think that just about sums up what seems to be the common ailments.
Overall the best, most fun car I have ever owned. I would buy another one in a second.

Be careful - you can easily pay to much. Prices are dropping, so what you pay today may seem extravagant tomorrow. Also, look outside your area. It pays to buy a $100 plane ticket to pickup a car that is thousands less somewhere else. I did it and saved a lot. You may be surprised, you might be able to buy a SRT somewhere else for the price you are willing to pay at home!
Good luck!

If you think you may want more power later - do yourself a favor and drive an SRT before buying.
I bought a limited, and traded it two months later for an SRT - should've got the SRT to begin with.
Check service history for recalls and previous maint.
Transmission leaks seem to be common - but easy to fix.
I would HIGHLY recommend a warranty, especially if you don't get the 7/70 warranty transfer option.
You'll love the car!

Buy a Crossfire, you won't regret it! CoupeGirl's experience is above & beyond (My word, a month CG? Your car better come back pristine!)
My white coupe has 56K on it & other than for taking a deer hit last year & doing the normal maintence I haven't replaced a thing. BUT, take the advice of some of the previous posts, if you can get your hands on a SRT-6, go for it. The prices are right & the performance is outstanding.

Oh, if you find an SRT to drive, don't be alarmed by the engine tick they make. It's normal. They all do it(SRT). We've isolated it down to Fuel Injector Tick. Mine ticks pretty loudly, but has had no issues and I race mine. Still as good as the day I got it. Make sure it has decent rubber on it(Dry Rot is common on the Michelins, Obvioulsy look for tire wear). You can easily pay $1,200 for a complete set installed.
By a CHRYSLER MAX CARE extended Warranty. Don't buy anything other than a Chrysler Warranty. You may consider getting the warranty off the internet, as they are cheaper, but the car has to have less than 48,000 miles to qualify. Don't pay over $1,300 for a 80,000 Max Care Warranty.
