Its day has come:"Chrysler Ends Production of Ill-Starred Crossfire"

They already have the viper which is not selling too well right now. Also, there is the looming federal mandate that all cars must meet a 35 mpg minimum by 2012. If that is passed, it will most likely kill cars like the Vette, Challenger, Camaro, etc. It's the death of the muscle car all over again until technology once again catches up. I HIGHLY doubt Chrysler will produce another high priced, gas guzzling sports coupe when they can barely sell Sebrings and mini vans.

Plus the Corvette and Camaro wouldn't really have a problem doing it.
This is my 1999 Corvette, 200 miles into a road trip. And no, this isn't me just cruising on a highway at 70mph for 200 miles straight, it's mixed driving with WOT blasts.

I think that's what those guys were saying. I originally thought that each car would have to meet those standards due to an Automobile Magazine article discussing what may happen to the Corvette in the future. I believe that the CAFE standard is for avg. fuel economy across a corporation's fleet of vehicles.

I like the Fieros. I used to have a red '86 SE that had the V-6. It was a great car. However, the performance never matched the looks.
But in the last year of production (1988), they finally got it right, as generally happens.

What is CAFE?
Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) is the sales weighted average fuel economy, expressed in miles per gallon (mpg), of a manufacturer’s fleet of passenger cars or light trucks with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 8,500 lbs. or less, manufactured for sale in the United States, for any given model year. Fuel economy is defined as the average mileage traveled by an automobile per gallon of gasoline (or equivalent amount of other fuel) consumed as measured in accordance with the testing and evaluation protocol set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

One thing that always bugged me (my car was a daily driver) was the small gas tank. I drove a distance to work and it seemed liked I was filling the tank just about every other day.

But, you need to know a little about Allantes, so you can ask the right questions of the seller. There is a great Allante Forum that has a lot of members. Just about any question related to an Allante can be answered by some forum member.

I AGREE WITH YOU. I LOVE THE FACT THAT EVERY TRAFFIC LIGHT I STOP AT AND EVERY GAS STATION SOMEONE MAKES A COMMENT ABOUT MY CAR. FAREWELL TO THE CROSSFIRE PRODUCTION, HELLO CLASSIC!!
