If that is passed, it will most likely kill cars like the Vette, Challenger, Camaro, etc. It's the death of the muscle car all over again until technology once again catches up. I HIGHLY doubt Chrysler will produce another high priced, gas guzzling sports coupe when they can barely sell Sebrings and mini vans.
I am by no means an insider, but if you follow the posts of the person who mentioned it around here, http://www.srtforums.com/forums/f106...ml#post5624398, you'll find that the odds are likely pretty good. It had been cancelled, but the new management brought it back apparently. By reading that thread from beginning to end you'll find all kinds of fun information.

Plus the Corvette and Camaro wouldn't really have a problem doing it.

This is my 1999 Corvette, 200 miles into a road trip. And no, this isn't me just cruising on a highway at 70mph for 200 miles straight, it's mixed driving with WOT blasts.

You're exactly correct about CAFE. I don't expect to see any drastic changes with the current models, just a few newer, smaller cars that will get 40-50+ MPG to offset the challengers, camaros, and the like.

"...which will increase the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standard from 25 to 35 miles-per-gallon for cars and light trucks. This is the first CAFE increase in 30 years."

I think that's what those guys were saying. I originally thought that each car would have to meet those standards due to an Automobile Magazine article discussing what may happen to the Corvette in the future. I believe that the CAFE standard is for avg. fuel economy across a corporation's fleet of vehicles.

It's the "average MPG" , not for each car. Just like it is now.

You are correct, CAFE stands for: Coporate Average Fuel Economy

My other car is a 1987 Pontiac Fiero GT. What does that tell you! I like orphan cars!

I like the Fieros. I used to have a red '86 SE that had the V-6. It was a great car. However, the performance never matched the looks.

But in the last year of production (1988), they finally got it right, as generally happens.

Sigh...

From: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/cafe/overview.htm

What is CAFE?
Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) is the sales weighted average fuel economy, expressed in miles per gallon (mpg), of a manufacturer’s fleet of passenger cars or light trucks with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 8,500 lbs. or less, manufactured for sale in the United States, for any given model year. Fuel economy is defined as the average mileage traveled by an automobile per gallon of gasoline (or equivalent amount of other fuel) consumed as measured in accordance with the testing and evaluation protocol set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Yes, I agree. GM has a nasty habit of doing that with its vehicles.

I know that your '87 GT is a fine looking car.

One thing that always bugged me (my car was a daily driver) was the small gas tank. I drove a distance to work and it seemed liked I was filling the tank just about every other day.

Easy on the Allantes...I have a beautiful Pearl White '88. I do wish it had the Northstar though.

I wonder how many forum members (besides me) are among the 193 sold last month. I guess that's why I was able to name my price.

Before I bought the XF I was considering an Allante.

If you can live with a '87 -'92 Allante, you can get some great deals. I mean steals.

But, you need to know a little about Allantes, so you can ask the right questions of the seller. There is a great Allante Forum that has a lot of members. Just about any question related to an Allante can be answered by some forum member.

Bought mine on 12/16/07, at a very attractive price. Of course, if I wanted to sell it, I'd never get near what I paid. IMO, a person has to buy a Crossfire because they really like it and plan to drive and keep it.

I AGREE WITH YOU. I LOVE THE FACT THAT EVERY TRAFFIC LIGHT I STOP AT AND EVERY GAS STATION SOMEONE MAKES A COMMENT ABOUT MY CAR. FAREWELL TO THE CROSSFIRE PRODUCTION, HELLO CLASSIC!!
