Default Rebadged Emblems?

I'm sorry for this rant/question, but it has puzzled me since I joined this group a while back.
Why is it that lots of people want to hide the heritage of this wonderful car? We all knowingly bought a Chrysler product, and if your so ashamed to
own it, I'm not sure why you would buy it in the first place.
I am an older car buff who came from the 60s and 70s muscle car era.
I don't remember trying to fool people into thinking I was driving a different car than the original nameplate stated from the factory.
It's nice to personalize your car in some way to make it your own, but loosing the Chyrsler badge, I just don't get it.
Now changing the grill, that's another story...or the exhaust, the seats, the lights, the color, the radio, the wheels&tires, the shocks, the brakes, or the springs, but Debadging and/or Rebadging won't change it's true heritage. The addition of a Karmann badge or a "Powered by Mercedes Benz" badge is the only thing that makes sense to this old timer. If Karmann sends me badges I'll will add them to this great little car.
Already painted the calipers Red, put in K&Ns, bought new floor mats, shift **** and chrome grill and I've only had the car about two months. But I will never try to gloss over where it came from in the first place.
I just know I'm going to get smoked for this!

Happy Holidays
Paul

its not that i am ashamed its a chrysler product (name plate)... it is what is.

but i have always hated the dated 'gold' colored chrysler emblem they have used for many many years.

this was the reason for my personal change of the emblem to simply state ... crossfire ... to eliminate the gold badging.

just a personal preference.

Because Chryslers suck. If there was no MB engine under the hood, I would never buy a Chrysler. Plus it's cool to keep people guessing who made the car.

Come on Dan, isn't that a large bit of a stretch. I doubt hundreds is even close. I would rather have an Andrew "original" from start to finish.

Now that broad brush statement is not only wrong but incredibley uninformed. You should have stayed away from the crossfire and hope you soon sell yours. I have debadged and rebadged not because I am ashamed but I have a grand time having people ask what it is. I've owned and driven Plymouth, Dodge, and Chrysler since 1971. Most of them were great and a few were dogs. To make a statement like "Chrysler sucks" makes as much sense as when people state "Bush sucks". It is just ignorance!

I bought my car because it was mostly MB. Actually I had planned to purchase a Solstice but I didn't want a 4 cyl. I too do not like the Chrysler emblem and covered them with Andrews decals. Looks like I'm stuck with the wings.

I, for one, like the oem Chrysler emblems. Then, again, I have never debadged any of my vehicles; except for dealer emblems.
Differences are what makes the world go round. Whatever that means?

I just don't like the look of the Chrysler badge. On a black car with silver trim the gold emblem looked bad so I put a set of Andrews decals (And yes, They still look great after many, many car washes) and I think it looks a lot better.

I am no Chrysler fan but always hoping they will get it together, but they always come up little short. I am a MB fan and traded one for my Crossfire. The fact that the Crossfire is a Chrysler in name only is what finally sold me.

For me, the choice to use the decals was primarily because I like to look of them.

I guess because the car is special it deserves a special badge. I use Startech ST badges because I have the Startech upgrades. Just as AMG/SRT/SVT/TRD/M/ etc badges adorn other makes to signify the car is special.

Simple

i've been a dodge/chrysler owner for a long time ... never owned anything else as a matter of fact. but i must say this car did it for me, i am very ashamed of the support chrysler has given our community ... or lack there of.

my xf has no chrysler emblems on it cause they do not deserve to advertise their name on a car i take care of so well when they will not lift a finger to give it proper service in its dealerships, proper advertising to sell it, or make sure we have parts available to us for many years to come (owners are already reporting dealerships can't get certain parts).

mercedes provided much of the technology, karmann assembled it, chrysler failed to sell it and service it ... i'll gladly fly the karmann emblem because i admire the build quality.

I never had the thought of changing emblems until reading posts on this forum. I don't like the gold emblems front/rear and would not mind replacing them with emblems on the wheels (silver).

intenseblu nailed it perfectly (and lantana, too). This car is a "Chrysler" in name only. It has no connection to any of the company's other models; it is made in all important mechanical respects from MB predecessors; and Chrysler did absolutely nothing to market it or to promote it properly. If Chrysler has no loyalty to the car, then why should its owners have any loyalty to the company? It was branded a Chrysler because that's what the bosses of DCX decided to do, but that doesn't change the facts. It is much more a unique "Crossfire" than it is a "Chrysler," and I'm happy to badge it accordingly. To be perfectly frank, the real mistake was ever calling it a "Chrysler" at all.

Paul, I understand what you're saying. But I think most forum members who have purchased Andrews emblems did so because they liked the way they looked, rather than to hide the fact they were driving a Chrysler. After all, any real car enthusiast knows it's a Chrysler as soon as they see the "Mini Van" grill.
You and I are the same age, and we were fortunate enough to get our drivers license right in the middle of the Muscle Car era. And even though I agree with you, I don't remember anybody ever trying to hide the brand name of their car either, I did see debadging, and rebadging all the time. Even more so in later years during the great "Clone Wars" where a LeMans morphed into a GTO, or a 70 Mustang "Sports roof"' mysteriously became a Boss 302. etc.
Now I know that's not exactly the same thing you're talking about, but still it's an example of owners "changing" their cars identities. So it's really nothing new.
Hopefully it's just a way someone chooses to personalize their car, and not a way to try to deceive somebody for personal gain, but it happens.
In the not too distant future, I wouldn't be too surprised to see a few more SRT-6's cruising the highways, even though they will only look like SRT's on the outside, they will still be a Limited on the inside.
I'm probably the biggest offender of all when it comes to trying to change the identity of my car, (since I've rebadged it as an AMX) but I didn't do it to hide the fact it's a Chrysler, I did it to convey what I really think the Crossfire is all about. Reasons better explained in this thread: https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...ead.php?t=9100page10
So you see we've all got our issues.
