Fuse blown
Hi guys. Sorry for posting here, but I dont know where to post this. I switched on the radio yesterday and found that there was no audio. I opened up the fuse box and saw that the amplifier's fuse was blown. I took a spare 15A fuse and when I put it in, it made sparks. Should I have taken off the negative battery terminal before doing this or can anything else be wrong?
Thanx for the reply GDC. The radio and ignition was switched off. The new fuse burnt out when I tried installing it when it sparked. Does anyone know if I should disconnect the battery before installing a fuse?
Another q, in the service manual it mentions a power amp harnass connector. Where is this located?

If the fuse blew as soon as you put it in, there is a short circuit somewhere. Did you have an aftermarket stereo put in?
Also, do you have a limited/srt-6 or a base?
Section 8A-20 in the Service Manual has removal instructions for the Amplifier. It's under the passenger footwell.
I would start by checking continuity to all wires to hot/12+

Does anyone know where the most likely part in the wiring harnass a short could have occured? A place with the most wear perhaps?
So I took my XF in for a service and they couldnt find the problem. They said they'll have to have the car the whole day to strip out the seats, carpets, dash etc. The mechanic asked me if I had a satelite tracking device installed becasue it can give problems in the wiring. So I went to Tracker (the sat tracking place that installed my unit) and had them check it out. Now my radio's working again! Ha!!
