Car Ownership Nirvana???
This is my first post ever to this website. Three weeks ago I purchased an 04 Xfire Limited 6-speed manual with 9,100 miles. I paid $16,700. The car is flawless inside and out. It is black with the red/dark gray interior. I love it. I went to Chrysler and paid the $150 to transfer the warranty. So the powertrain is covered until April of 2011. I was able to insure the car as an "exotic" with "Hagerty" insurance. I pay $35/month for full coverage with a value of $17,000. This value doesn't change as the car ages like with most insurance policies. The car cost less than most econoboxes, cost much less to insure than most econoboxes, has a warranty, German build quality and amazing styling. Am I right to feel like I've found "car ownership nirvana?" The three weeks have been long enough to realize some of the cars shortcomings, but this kind of car (with the low mileage) for this kind of money is almost unheard of. The fact that I even test drove this car was a fluke. I had my heart set on a Boxster and was going to buy an 01 for $20,000. Both cars have their strong and weak points, but I like the Crossfire better.
So, I wanted to get some feedback as to how good a deal you out there in the Xfire community think $16,700 was for this Xfire. I'm attaching some pictures here. (hopefully)

Great deal, beautiful color combination, dollars and cents are subjective, but what you have invested will be paid back 10 fold in enjoyment you will recieve from this fine automobile.
Congratulations and welcome to the forum

Hi!
It IS Nirvana! I had a 04 coupe late in 2003 and just traded up to a 06 convertible end of December! Really good time to get a crossfire! Just really love the car! You did get a great deal! My 06 convertible
auto with 5400 miles was 20,500 which I feel was a great deal too! Looking forward to my first summer with it!
Have many a great ride!

In regards to insuring the Xfire as an "exotic": Hagerty Insurance requires that every licensed driver in the household have a car registered in their own name (Not including the collectible/exotic). Basically, they want to know that you're not driving it (the exotic) everyday, which I'm not. It's a weekender/occasional road trip car. It also has to be stored in a locked garage etc. My yearly premium is $453. That actually works out to be $37.75/month. So, I was a little off with my $35/month quote. My daily driver is a 1994 Chevy Cavalier convertible. (Yes, I know, but I teach high school and I park in the same lot as the kids. Only a crazy man would drive something nice to this place). The agent at Hagerty said that they generally prefer that the daily driver be something a little newer than my car, but I explained that I don't live far from work and that we drive my wife's car for longer trips, so they accepted my application.
Like I mentioned before, when you insure the car this way. You insure it for an amount. In my case $17,000. If the car is totaled 5 years from now, I'll still get $17,000. Normally, you just get the book value on a car and that is often less than you still owe. It's a win/win deal, if you don't drive your Xfire too much. I encourage anybody in the same situation to check out Hagerty. They've been around for quite a while and they insure cars worth 10 times as much as ours. I would also add that my Xfire only had 9,100 miles on it when I bought it last month. I think that helped bring home the point that the car was being driven more like a collectible/exotic. Anyway, check 'em out.
