Default Windshield Washer Spray Nozzles don't spray anymore

Anybody experience this? that they just spontaneously stop??? Can windshield washer fluid freeze? It's only like 20 deg F today in MI. Maybe got down to 15 deg F at the lowest during the day. I can hear the pump going, but no juice. I added about 2-3 cups (measured) to the reservoir cuz that's all I had in the garage, and still nothing.

Any ideas?

I was told by the Toyota dealership for my 4 runner I used to have always keep your resevoir full in sub freezing temps so the pump doesn't freeze and crack.

That's very intersting because when I went to put some fresh fluid in, I was curious as to why it was taking a whole 1Gal bottle... Until I heard the water falling. I look under the car and what looked like a whole gallon of fluid has leaked onto the floor. Is this normal? Is there an overfill something that just dumps fluid all over the ground??

Here's and old link that probably explains your leak.

There is an overflow when the tank gets full.

Washer fluid can freeze in the nozzles of any car. It is a mixture of water and an alcohol (not safe for human consumption). If the washers have not been used in a while the alcohol may evaporate, leaving mostly water, which will freeze. Use a hair dryer or warm (not hot) water to melt the ice in the nozzles. Once you rince through some fluid that has a higher concentration of alcohol your freezing problem will probably resolve. Do not use very hot water as you could crack your windshield.

Sorry, but what a stupid idea. WTF were they thinking? Yeah, when it's full, we'll just spill this fluid that is hazardous to human consumption all over the ground.

Dumb... But at least I know it works and I don't have to put even MORE money into this car...

Yeah, this is a problem in cold weather areas. Mine has frozen up a couple of times this winter. I live in Buffalo so it gets pretty cold here. If you add in some more fluid it will help. This only seems to happen if I don't have the tank full. If I remember right the washer fluid is heated but you probably have to have it at a high enough level.

i'm just glad I didn't crack the reservoir.
anybody have an idea on how much it's supposed to hold?? I didn't put much in before it started overflowing... Maybe 1/3 to 1/2 a gallon?

That's the weird thing... the light didn't come on. So it may have been LOW and frozen, but not low enough to put the light on.

The dealership put crappy fluid in and I'm sure that's why it froze... So when I put good fluid in, it probably melted the frozen stuff and started flowing.

all-Bran I had the same exact experience as you this past weekend and I also live in Michigan. I went to use the nozzles and nothing came out and no light was on so I figured it was low anyways, well it was close because I put in about 3/4 gallon before overflow but when I went to try it I had no luck still. I figure it was the extremly low temps we got here (~5 degrees) freezing up the nozzles or lines. I haven't needed to use it since but I'll check it later today, I'm waiting for warmer temps to hopefully unfreeze the lines.... Or the pump broke but I'm ignoring that possibility for now...
