Default Installing Parking Lights

I have been searching and searching the forum and have not found a good description yet. I am planning on replacing a burnt parking light (littles ones in the front corners of the headlights). Picked up two sets of bulbs at the auto store, one is amber (Part #194), and one is white (Part #2825).

What is the best way to install these little guys? I have installed silverstars previously so I have familiarity with the headlight assembly.

Thanks in advance!

From the service manual:

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the headlamp unit.
Refer to Page 8L-103.
3. Rotate the front position lamp socket (1) counterclockwise
and pull the bulb from the socket.

INSTALLATION
1. Press the front position lamp bulb into the socket and insert
it into the headlamp unit (1), rotating clockwise to lock.
2. Install the headlamp unit.
Refer to Page 8L-104.

3. Connect the negative battery cable.

Here's the section from 8L-103 to 8L-104:

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the headlamp unit upper retaining bolts (1).
3. Open the access panel in the inner fender well.
4. Remove the lower headlamp unit retaining bolts (2).
5. Lift the headlamp unit from the front fascia and disconnect
the harness connector and the front position lamp socket.

INSTALLATION
1. Install the front position lamp socket and the headlamp unit
harness connector.
2. Position the headlamp unit into the fascia area.
3. Install the upper retaining bolts (1) finger tight.
4. Install the lower retaining bolts finger tight.
5. Tighten all retaining bolts to torque specification.
6. Close the access panel in the inner fender well.
7. Connect the negative battery cable.

It's not really too tough....hope this helps!

I was able to remove the parking lamps without disassembling the housings to install leds, but if I had to do it again, I'd follow the service manual. I was unable to get a full 90 degree twist on reassembly.

When I finally do get around to taking them all the way off, can the bottom 2 screws be reconfigured to be posts intead of a true screw assembly? Or will it vibrate too much?

thanks for that input! I hope its easier than it sounds. Its a pain you have to remove the housing though! I'll take a look at it tomorrow.

Good lord..... I'm trying to do this right now....... I cant find a way to get them out without taking the whole light out..... I read else where that you can take off the side marker and that helps.

The ones in the top corner are are pain but try this, it worked for me.

I used an open ended spanner, one that will just slot on the bulb holder from behind.
Put the spanner in behind the bodywork so the open end of the spanner slots over the bulb holder. there then should be enough of the spanner sticking behind the bodywork to get a wrench or screwdriver on the other end of the spanner to twist the bulb holder out. Then same to put it back. Hope this helps, it works for me.

I don't own a spanner, any reason why they are like 40$? Am I looking, at the right tool?

This is what we in UK call a spanner

And this is how I used it to get the small bulb holders out.

Bravo! Nice photos.!

And be sure to grease the o-ring before re-assembly. Makes re-seating the little devil much easier.

STICKY!

I just finished it!! that screw driver and "spanner" idea really helped!! thank you so much!
I still ran into some issues once I got it rotated trying to pull the dang thing out.

I don't know if this will help anyone, but I took some real fine tipped needle nose pliers and grabbed onto one of the plastic tabs sticking out of the side of the housing. Once I had a good hold (and the rim had been WD-40'd) it popped right out.
Thanks again for the help guys!

It would be a bit of a wrench to spend $40 on a spanner.

Cool Re: Installing Parking Lights

Thanks for the pictures! I need to replace that little devil and was dreading the idea of removing the entire headlight assembly.

Jeez Jack - take a 10" length of old broomstick and saw a 1/2 " slot in it.

I had to replace my parking light yesterday and after reading this "how to", I had not troubles. Using an open end box wrench or spanner, worked great! Thanks for the tip! IF you have trouble fitting the wrench over the back of the light plug, I would recommend removing the two top screws and the one bottom screw (on the engine side) of the headlight housing. The screw under and on the fender side was hard to reach and I just loosened it slightly to get a little more room for the wrench.
